Horrible showcase, made me completely uninterested in Sony as a publisher. where is factions? bend? sucker punch? the only good looking games seem to be alan wake and of course spider man. waste of an hour

Hey I had a blast with my PS5 since launch and I’m not going to judge based on a so so showcase.

Makes me question Jim Ryan as CEO, a streaming handheld that basically does what your app already can do? completely generic co op games that miss the point of what makes multiplayer games interesting. just give me final fantasy so i can check out of gaming until 2024 when they try again.

Thoughts:

Fairgames looks like Ubitrash.
Its impossible to make your realistic shooter protag look iconic these days, no matter how much shit you glue to his face. (Helldivers, Immortals of Aveum and Hellwhatever the third one was being back to back to back promted this one.) Only solution is to go for a stylized look.
Phantom Blade 0 looks good.
2020s Corporate Art the Game. Also emotional blackmail indie trash no interest. You kill the dog 30 seconds in and actually expect people to care?
Lol, Cat Quest 1 was cash-in crap. How the hell did they get on this showcase.
Ahh well, at least Cat Quest 2 had gameplay, did any of the other ones so far?
This hero shooter thing looks fun. I will never play it and give it 3 years until death. Oh, its an S-E game.
I am on board for GTA-Minecraft. Oh, its already out on other platforms?
MGS3 remake was already leaked but glad to see it shown off.
Towers of Aghasba also looks good.
Oh, they actually put "CBU III" in writing on the FFXVI trailer, not usual for Japanese studios to do that. Interesting.
Its Dragon's Dogma 2, this time with actual characters and a plot!
"Not Actual Gameplay", don't worry FNAF, we already know from all the other trailers. Who keeps buying this shit anyways?
Its just a trailer but Marathon (which did NOT look like this in the 90s) has far more interesting visuals than all of the shooters this conference opened with put together.
What dev was Concord? Did I miss it or was that literally just a name with no further info including dev or genre?
Helldivers, Phantom Blade and Aghasba are doing a lot to save this shitty presser, but there's still 12 minutes to fit in Spiderman.
Are they really ending with a driving game instead of Spiderman? Oh, no, one more thing.
But first, its that shitty streaming portable. Lol have fun not selling any of those clunkers.
Unless they radically changed Kraven's look, this isn't Spiderman... Oh, no, there he is. Kraven confirmed. Game looks nice.

Yeah, there's some good stuff in there, but a whole lot of filler too. Gonna need someone to go through and separate the exclusives from the multiplats.

I didn't ask to get on the train so I'm the only survivor.

All of you are dead.

Much of this showcase was lackluster, though I’m glad MGSDelta was finally announced. No Silent Hill games or Castlevania were shown, which was a bummer. I have a feeling Konami will have their own showcases for the rest of the year. I’m sure they’ll want to do another Transmission this summer, maybe after SGF. We also have to see what’s up with SH The Short Message. As for other games like Dragon Quest XII and Persona 6, maybe TGS? A lot of maybes, here.

The standout for me was Phantom Blade 0. Looks and feels like a legit next-gen game and was also the visual standout. The other standouts were AssCreed Mirage, Alan Wake 2, Dragon's Dogma 2, Helldivers 2 (strong Starship Troopers vibes) and (maybe) Spiderman 2. I am iffy on Spiderman 2 for two reasons: one being that overall the visuals aren't the jump up visually I expected of a PS5-only game (did you see those water effects?), the other being there was a part in the warehouse with Miles where he grabbed two enemies and yet...somehow...neither of the enemies just feet away from them noticed? Sus AI moment IMHO.

There were a few neat indie games, but in a showcase that was lacking some expected reveals such as this one, they would've been better served for a State of Play. What really surprised me (and not in a good way) was just how little 1P presence was here. Outside of Haven, Bungie, and Insomniac, they had no 1P. And the Haven & Bungie stuff were just live-action/GaaS and also CG trailers. And instead of some update for the actual GT7 game, we got a rehash of the movie trailer in the showcase!? Who thought that was a good idea!?

Right now, it wouldn't be that hard for Microsoft to outdo this with their June Showcase, and I'm hoping they actually do. Same with the SGF event. Some of the 3P reveals I expected at the PlayStation Showcase may probably show up at those two (particularly SGF). Also, very surprised there was no showing of Stellar Blade, and that's supposed to be coming out this year right?

Maybe Sony are playing 4D chess to look weak to the regulators, or lure Microsoft into a false sense of security so they say "hey guess we don't need ABK after all" and cancel the deal in July. Who knows at this point 🤷🏽‍♂️.

I feel like this showcase was made because of marketing contracts and nothing else.
