Well, the difference is that Sony have been delivering constantly, I have no reason to doubt them.
2023 look pretty week, just another Spider-man game and a timed exclusivity they bought from SE. Really low bar and a long way from where Sony was year 3 of the PS4.

I thought studios have been expanding and have been working on multiple projects?

Naughty Dog should of been able to even show us a bit of one of there games. TLOU2 came out 3 years ago and the Factions Team were working on the multiplayer game before TLOU2 even came out. Insomniac has shown and released more game in that time.
It was time for some surprises and 1st party games to be shown
Yes, several Sony studios have been/will continue growing with the goal of being able to work in multiple projects at the same time.

But to grow studios to the point of getting a full aditional AAA team requires a lot of time. And to make a AAA game requires many years, specially with pandemic lockdowns in the middle.

In less than 3 years ND released TLOU2, Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection, TLOUP1, two PC ports, Uncharted movie, TLOU TV show and this month a fucking rollercoaster. They are supposed to show this year their biggest project ever: TLOU Online, which I assume will release next year. They are rumored to have other unannounced big project under development, which I assume is in early stages.

The TLOU Online project originally was only going to be a MP mode for TLOU2, but when was decided to branch off to a standalone game changed a lot and basically rebooted into a way bigger and more ambitious concept, the biggest ever for ND.

Insomniac released Spider-Man Morales + Remastered (and their PC ports) and Ratchet Rift Apart. They shown Spider-Man 2 today and announced to be working also in Wolverine, which I assume will be released next year.

The main issue with this show is that the showcase is excepted the be the big blowout day, where they announce things that are not close to release. I get that their marketing cycle is now much shorter, and I respect that (and even agree with it), but like the Star Wars Celebration day, this is the opportunity to give people a glimpse of what's being worked on, even if they don't provide a release date. I wouldn't even mind CGI trailers for a load of that stuff.

Instead what they did was show fuck all, which is worrying. I've repeated in another thread, but what this tells me is that Jimbo and Hermen have royally shat the bed and fucked with their pipeline, something that will take years to fix. They have been riding on the success established by the previous leadership, and their pipeline, and now that it dried up they have Insomniac carrying them. If you exclude that studio, every single release started development before or by 2019. They tied all their studios in stupid live service games.

But hey, some people will clap to this because revenue is very high and whatnot, but as I said before, I don't play revenue, I play games.

Sounds a lot like what I hear from Xbox players.

"Just wait till a few more years"
"The good games are coming"
Sony always had down years from time to time... It's not like you could deliver GoW and HFW every year forever. Same for early in the PS3 and PS4 generation.

and this is not like we had a redfall and Halo Infinite meltdown either.

either way, I'm not sure what the option would be, getting an xbox and hoping MS gets better?

To me all the crossgen games (Miles Morales, Forbidden West, Ragnarok) despite being good were still disappointing.

The option is to become a master waiter and stop supporting Sony. Multi on PC + PS Plus Extra shared with a buddy so Sony sees even less of my money.

Insomniac has done well with releases. Ive liked the expansion.

Im not really gonna count TLOU1 Remake, PC ports, TV series, Movie etc lol As the Naughty Dog work. Especially the world I want to see from them. These ports are bad for us gamers in that case if we are gonna count these are work from Naughty Dog.

The main team has released TLOU2 and thats it since 3 years ago in 2020. And they had a multiplayer team that has been working on Factions before TLOU2 was released. So they should at least show some stuff. U1/2/3 TLOU1/TLOU2 and U4 were all shown years before there release so I prefer to see something instead of nothing.

There shows just arent good anymore. 2 years of wait and this was the big push? Lame

After that poor showcase. I'll tell you now 1st party games are 2-3 years out. It's gonna be peak waiting times.

Seems like bad management from Hermen or whoever. No Naughty Dog, No Cory Balrog Game, Suckerpunch, Bluepoint. No Big 3rd party exclusives like the last 2 generations. What is all this money being spent on? Expanding teams means games should come out faster and more of them. Or at least the same time as before if they are working on 1 title….

it started development in 2020 after part 2 shipped

for example, they directors of the game all worked on part 2

Im pretty sure we heard a team was working on Factions, 2 and then not coming as they announced TLOU2 will be single player only.

It was something like TLOU2 won’t be multiplayer, single player only. Factions 2 was scrapped during development and made into its own standalone thing.

We knew about it when they announced TLOU2 won’t have Factions 2.

Yeah Part 2 had PvP multiplayer that was cancelled. Footage of it leaked. Some of it obviously will be used in this new game, but TLOU Online is a new game that only started about 3 years ago.

I mean if you were underwhelmed by this showcase and you DON'T shit on it, then sony won't know to do better next time.
This is when we find out who are the shills and who just want to play good games. Any content creator that makes excuses for this show I don't want to ever hear from again.

It's a defining moment from PlayStation, the point where it's beyond obvious that we are descending into GaaS hellscape.

Stellar blade and helldivers will hopefully still make 2023
