This is confusing. Some people say the studio didn't actually pitch a sequel, whereas others say that Jimbo Fail and Hermen Lazy refused it. Where do we stand?
Considering the ending of the first game, I firmly believe the former, but I can't say I'm sure.

Days Gone 2 is just not as justifiable of an investment as Concord and FairGame$ are. 
But to be honest I don't mind it if Bend is working on something better, Days Gone was mid, not bad, just mildly good.

The creative pitched it to the head of bend studio who would of then pitched it to sony but said no to it
iirc according to interviews it never made it to jimbo and hermen, the studio director of bend refused to pitch it
Shame he cant tell the truth. Always subtle shit. PS only wanted 1 zombie game. Days gone had to go. Cause eventually naughty dog would expand TLOU story to the outback open world. Days gone already did that with great Bike traversal. Days gone isway more fun than TLOU. Didn't want to upset naughty dog. Kept the portfolio to one zombie game.

Days Gone 2 was blocked by the Bend Studio head, not by Sony's PS Studios HQ/Hermen.Days Gone 2 is just not as justifiable of an investment as Concord and FairGame$ are.
Hermen/PS Studios approved the first pitch they received from Bend, which was a new IP and not DG2, they never received any DG2 pitch.
According to that Jeff (codirector of Days Gone 1).
They spent 7 years in DG1, but according to him most of the final game was done in the last 3. He estimates (being unrealistically optimistic IMO) that they could have made a sequel in 4.
Crystal Dynamics? I thought that after Sony he went to Netherrealm
Days Gone universe had the potential to be a great GaaS game funny enough. That horde tech mixed with Co-op, open world and all the mission + challenges they threw into the game with post launch support showed it.
I'm sure they would have gotten it out in a faster pace Than Naughty Dog whose been in development turmoil since 2014... Losing Hennig and Justin Richmond was a self inflicted wound they still haven't fully healed from.

Would be depressing. That would leave pretty much SSM as the only place where a new IP single player AAA could come from.

Fun fact: World War Z: Aftermath was originally pitched to Sony Bend as the multiplayer extension of Days Gone and they declined.

Naughty Dog is probably working on TLoU Pt III in addition to Factions.
Guerrilla is confirmed to be working on more Horizon.
Insomniac has Spider-man 2 and Wolverine after that.
Sucker Punch is likely making GoT2
Bluepoint never made a game of their own.
Media Molecule and Team Asobi are hardly AAA studios.

That's about it. Sony doesn't have that many studios when you take out the GaaS stuff (that explains the upcoming lack of single player games).
Right now it looks like we could go an entire gen with just Returnal and SSM new IP as the "big" new IPs introduced this gen.
