Multiple industry insiders have reported that Sony was holding back with the latest edition of its PlayStation Showcase. Their claims emerged online following a mixed response to the event which saw the gameplay reveal of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, but was criticized for otherwise lacking in first-party exclusives, among other things.

With the last PlayStation Showcase happening nearly two years ago, the fandom had high expectations for Sony's May 24 broadcast. And though the event was hardly lacking in content, clocking in at over an hour, it offered little in the way of release dates and was largely focused on CGI trailers instead of gameplay sequences that many have been hoping for. Some fans were also surprised to later learn just how many PlayStation Showcase games are coming to Xbox.

Established industry insider Tom Henderson subsequently took online to suggest that Sony has been holding back with the PlayStation Showcase. Many of the titles from the event "are pretty much ready," even though they are yet to be treated to gameplay reveals and release dates, Henderson reported on May 25. Soon thereafter, another known leaker known as The Snitch said they were surprised to see Sony choosing to omit several AAA games that are on the horizon from its PlayStation Showcase lineup.

Elaborating on that claim, The Snitch stated that another PlayStation PC port is currently slated to release in July, adding that it's "super weird" this game wasn't present at the May 24 event. Broadly speaking, the notion that a major publisher would hold back on announcing near-finished products isn't outside the realm of possibility. This was recently underlined by widespread reports that Nintendo has been sitting on Metroid Prime Remastered for years, with Fire Emblem Engagesupposedly receiving similar treatment. Yet such a strategy is far from standard practice for Sony, who historically preferred longer marketing cycles.

The overall lack of new release dates announced during the latest PlayStation Showcase is another reason to doubt the claims that many of the games seen at the event are close to going gold. One counterpoint is that Naughty Dog already promised more information about The Last of Usmultiplayer spinoff sometime in 2023; seeing how that game was nowhere to be seen during the May 24 broadcast, another PlayStation Showcase or at the very least a State of Play stream could still emerge in the second half of 2023.

But the window for that to realistically happen is pretty narrow, because publishers tend to focus on pushing their existing inventories in the run-up to the holiday season, traditionally the most lucrative period of the year for the video game industry. That notwithstanding, with multiple AAA PlayStation exclusives like Death Stranding 2 and The Last of Us multiplayer game being expected to emerge in the near future, Sony has to fit those reveals somewhere.

Fire Emblem isn't really a relevant comparison. Two differeteams made Fire Emblem games and one ended up being held for nine months to avoid cannibalizing sales. Sony just doesn't have stuff ready to release at this time.

Bruh wake up, this showcase was a disappointment on every level. Even diehard PS shills admitted this on Twitter.
So just because it was garbage it means that Sony must be hiding a bunch of good games and that we should listen to insiders?

Sony ain't hiding shit, they obviously are still making games but they had nothing to show and they are most likely taking a ridiculous amount of time.

The real leaks usually are just simple and precise things stated clearly. MGS3 remake, week of the Showcase show, Marathon, etc. The cryptic stuff is always bullshit.

"I heard Sony has some big games in the making! Huge!"

Insiders were sure the showcase was going to blow people minds and now they’re saying PS is holding back.

Can people not tell they’re full of shit and only day things because your attention translates to validation or money?

Insiders are getting annoying. Tell us what you know instead of cryptic teases.

With all that said, it makes sense in a way. I think Sony held back alot to help certain games shine. For example, if factions was there and it looked spectacular (Assuming it does anyways), and sony also showed haven and hell divers 2, then those games would be over shadowed and forgotten about. SM2 they had to show off and wanted it to be the star of the show. This conference was about introducing some of their GAAS games and giving spider man room to breath. We may not like it but it makes sense.

It's always like this, they claim something and when it doesn't happen it's because something else happened that delayed it. We've been at it for close to two years non-stop at this point.

Well this people do know things. Snitch when he was active in the insider game, he had a totally impressive track record. He quitted because Sony was tracking him down, at least he told this on his public discord sever.

The only insider I trust it's the only one that always has been right: The Snitch.

As an example for this showcase, he knew about the MGS3 remake showing something nobody else mentioned before, the delta in green which later, after the show we saw in its game logo.

I think another disconnect that happens is the difference between hearing about something and actually seeing it.

For example, hearing that in the showcase Sony was going to show Spider-man 2 gameplay, Marathon by Bungie, new IP by Haven, new IP by Firewalk, Helldivers 2, MGS3, Dragon Dogmas 2, RE4 VR, etc, sounds a lot better in theory than it did in reality.

That show was so boring that by the time we got to Spider-man 2 gameplay I couldn't handle it anymore and left.

Snitch is one of them who made claims.
Yes, this is why I mention it.

I think it's obvious that Sony has multiple games in addition to several PC ports expected to be released this or next year (several of them already announced) that Sony decided to don't include them in this show.

But whatever he says, I believe it because I know he's right. In this case, he added the specific bit of an unannounced PC port for July, so I bet this will happen unless there's a last minute delay.
