Problem there was marketing. CG trailers is just a garbage way to debut a game

We still know nothing about their games though. Completely writing them off is silly. Especially now we are seeing that Sony are putting a pretty high bar on what they are expecting teams to come with
To me that speaks for how weak those games must be, a lot of effort was put into created CG trailers for them and yet he we are feeling completely unimpressed and still wondering what the appeal is supposed to be.

I would not write off Concord one bit. No way. They did good enough to get flat out bought. The pedigree is there.

I'm not writing Concord off but that trailer was incredibly tone-death. How can you sell a game with zero gameplay, zero narrative plot, a largely unknown studio and what is honestly some very generic looking Outer Worlds/Fallout style space junkfood. About the only thing in the trailer that stood out to me as good was the game's logo. Here's hoping its the stylized 80s EPCOT shooter we didn't know we needed.

Still a marketing issue. It can take 3 - 6 months to have gameplay ready for a showcase and the fact that nobody except Spiderman 2 which is near launch was ready tells me there is a big issue in Sony's communication about marketing deadlines and delivery

CG trailers are turned around much quicker, or quite often might already exist as internal proof of concepts.

If Sony's marketing was operating like last gen they'd have had trailers or gameplay for a lot more games ready

I had a post yesterday illustrating this and how Sony have fired a lot of marketing people over the past few years

Marketing is becoming a universal problem these days.

I genuinely have no idea how some of these marketing folks out there ever even managed to get degrees, let alone the jobs they have.

PlayStation has laid off big portions of their marketing teams in the past few years. Say what you will about Shawn Layden but he came from a marketing background and had the marketing and PR humming

They deserve.

They are one of few studios that do blasting gameplay… maybe the pinnacle in gunplay (even so some nostalgics says Max Paine was the peak).

BTW they delivery in revenue like no other studio… just on PC last FU was around $150m… PS is even bigger.

Fanboys still praising Bungie and Hermen as they kill off half of Sony's first party projects. Destiny is an okay multiplayer game but nothing monumental enough to warrant it's developers to have carte blanche over one of the best publishers in the world's multiplayer content.

Bungie's so "good" at GAAS you can't even play their full game because they've deleted so much content from it.

I love that even tho we are a board that heavily leans PlayStation many if not most of us won't take shit like you would see on an Xbox board.

We expect the best because we are used to it. This is about getting the games not simping for some brand or being a fanboy of some lying CEO that never delivered on anything.

The moment Sony stops delivering quality games at a good enough pace is the moment they lost me, I won't be waiting for 15 years like Xbox fans hoping that one day things will get better due to bling brand allegiance.

I saw this image posted on another forum from Sony's investor deck. It seems Bungie will be allowed to infect* integrate* it's opinion into ALL Playstation Studios games going forward.

So what we're hearing is true, Bungie will eventually have to greenlight ALL projects from Playstation Studios, making them on par with SIE themselves.

Jim Ryan paid 4 billion dollars for Bungie and yet they STILL aren't required to make their games exclusive to Playstation. They made out like a bandit.

You're wrong, as shown in the image Bungie joined PS Studios and SIE Publishing in the 'SIE Live Service Center of Excellence' team, which is the one who reviews the SIE live services games (so the non-GaaS titles aren't included there, Bungie doesn't/won't be a part of the PS Studios team who reviews the SIE/PS Studios non-GaaS games).

Sony said multiple times that the main thing they wanted with the Bungie acquisition was to use their knowledge, expertise, data, tools etc. to help their other SIE/PS Studios teams make better GaaS.

Yes, we have the confidence that gives the pedigree of their devs.

And also knowing that if the TLOU Online game has been delayed and the Deviation title apparently cancelled or highly rebooted, the bar seems to be pretty high, so whatever they release will be good.

Looking at their metrics from social media, game sales/reviews/awards, console sales, user engagement, game sub rents etc., their marketing team (in addition to the other ones) is doing a great job. They market things that a ton of people like and buy.

But there's a small group of rabid fanboys who prefer to believe on rumors from fake insiders, and even when proved false continued believing in them. They even create FUD conspiracy theories, reject to believe what the company says to their investors and regulators and statements from their bosses or studios to build upon FUD conspiracy theoris.

I mean, look at the OP as an example. Sony said many times they bought Bungie because want to learn from them to make great GaaS, as the record breaking ones that Bungie made. Including the one from where this image was taken.

The image explains the SIE plan to integrate Bungie into SIE's live service operations model, where there's also (see the left or the right of the image) SIE publishing team and PS Studios (specifically Live Service Hub team, Tech & Services team, Studios management team) which before had their own Live Service Approach and the image shows how they are going to integrate Bungie there to improve it.

During the 1st month they shared / integrated / aligned the PS Studios and Bungie GaaS processes, their workflow. A couple monts later the same with their principles and philosophies, and during the second half of the first year (period that ends around the current days) Bungie shared their expertise with the other SIE teams to help them build it, assisted the current GaaS under development and live services capabilities, in addition to integrate Bungie's expertise in the team that reviews SIE's GaaS titles.

Which isn't and won't be Bungie, will be 'SIE Live Service Center of Excellence', a team with a part SIE publishing and a part PS Studios and Bungie. That team will make different types of review for SIE GaaS titles (only live service games, not ALL SIE games): design/concept reviews, data/monetization reviews, preproduction pipeline reviews, launch readiness & post launch reviews.

Something that makes total sense: after making an acquisition they integrate the acquired expertise where they can help, share the knowledge and align processes, best practices and philosophies.

No, I’d much rather see TLOU online and Sony release Redfall and Halo Infinite disasters. Screw quality control and good business. Release shit. Phil does it and he don’t care. It seems to be working for Xbox…

Destiny bring in 300 to 500M per year. People stay or return and invest. Definition of cash cow. They know what they re doing.

Destiny has probably best fps gameplay out there.

They wont interfere with single player stuff. Concord and fairgames got green light.

Pixel opus was small studio irrelevant in grand scheme.
who knows what were Deviation cooking.

Its better to cancel game early than to spend 5 or 10 years and gez dud like MM wasted 10 years on Dreams.

I played uncharted and tlou mp back in the day. It couldnt hold my attention for too long. Controls were mediocre for mp, too slow, mtx were boring, uninteresting.

Sony s making mistake putting ND on gaas. For those games u need huge studio focused only on that constantly. U cant put game out, add few mtx and jump to other game. They should focus on SP stuff.

You ever play remnant? I’m still hoping to see that level of crispness from the next big online tps… if it ever happens. TPs field is devoid…
