Turns out people DO buy indie games after all :unsure:



Much of that can be owed to the "highly successful" launches of Sloclap's Sifu and Scorn from Ebb Interactive. Both games released last year to decent-to-strong reviews, with Sifu in particular selling 2 million copies so far across its releases on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and (as of November 2022) Nintendo Switch.

Not selling as a full price product probably helped reach that goal quicker than most recent AAA games. ($39.99 launch)

GG, already played the PS4 version when it launched, will try again on Xbox when on sale.

It came out same month as Horizon, Dying Light 2 and Elden Ring. It was exclusive too with Sony marketing machine. Good for them!

Great small game.

Lets see how well Steam and Xbox users treat it by buying it full price….

When it comes to software, Steam and Xbox users seem to spend way less than Nintendo and PS fans. I always hear, Ill wait for sale, pirate or gamepass

Sifu also didn't launch on any sub service where it reached 2 million users in only 2 months. 🤷‍♂️

But I digress, hopefully the game is received well on Xbox and Steam as well. I really liked the combat mechanics.

Even made a video of the old-boy homage segment.

Scorn did and they're so embarrassed about the sales they didn't even mentioned them, just Sifu.

2 millions sales could be 4+ millions players with all the accounts that can share the same copy. Sales is always the better metric publisher care about.

Game s not even on xbox let alone gp.

The same press release also calls Scorn a success for the publisher, that's the day 1 GP game.

Imagine, to be so out of touch with reality, that you compare 2M sold with 2M players the same as success😂

The context of me mentioning how it took one 2 months versus a full year for the other just flew right by huh ..

Nice for them. However a lot of the carry was Sony's marketing doing - the visibility component - aka Shu. Got the plat for it. Overrated in my opinion, the combat has "defects" if you will and balancing is not where it needs to be. The system however is a solid foundation that tackles the ever difficult problem of having multiple aggressive enemies on screen at once. It does this task much better than most - say for example, Souls games or the recent Wo Long which I got done playing recently (terrible combat systems for throwing multiple enemies at the screen as opposed to 1 v. 1). It's a different take from what became the 3D brawler standard - the free-flow combat system used in Arkham games, later used in Shadow of Mordor games and Insomniac's Spider-man (basic gameplay principles are all the same there across those games). I think the success of this game, beyond Sony's push, highlights the thirst for good 3D combat systems that can revitalize 3D brawlers back. God of War is more your classical hack and slash system but with weight and all other goodies and aids added on top and done superbly well. Ditto for Godfall as well.

It's because there's a formula there to get some sense of validation from all the other people there. It's a "safe space" where being challenged isn't allowed, you just have to make sure your opinion is on the currently winning side. Imagine never having to face the prospect that you're wrong, because the mods won't let any facts that counter the zeitgeist live to see the light of day.

When you disagree with the consensus you basically have to tip toe around or use coded language or come back to having a full inbox of people dogpiling you and eventually getting a ban. That entire place is exhausting

They act like they are different or better than everyone else when the truth is the same people that console war on gaf or twitter, have era accounts and they just have to hide their true feelings with concern and other bs snark and the mods are just as bad

Its great combat. If you like melee fisty cuffs and a challenge, then you’ll like it

yeah, i hope, Sony or whatever gives them funds to make AA size game. 15-20h semi open world game, expand of what they have. it is pretty unique. just harness all of this.
