Bungie Releases Original Marathon For Free On Steam

Bungie has released the original Marathon for Mac OS on Steam, and it's currently free for everyone to download.

The original Marathon from Bungie has been released on Steam, and you can get it today completely free.

“Today, we’re thrilled to announce that the Aleph One community is bringing the original 1994-1996 Marathon Trilogy to Steam starting with Marathon 1,” the studio said via Twitter. “Thank you to the Marathon community for your support over the years. We couldn’t do it without you.”

This updated version of the original Marathon features widescreen HUD support, 60+ frames per second, positional audio, and 3D filtering and perspective. All of it being done using the original game files.

Sony do their best work when fighting for something; PS1 - early PS2. Late Ps3-Mid PS4. Late PS5-early PS6??

The console industry has killed the console industry and are asking "why would PC do this?" Buy a PC, use Linux, best gaming for best price.

This is some kind of bullshit...

Sony is doing nothing to bring back the PS1\2 cult classics in normal quality.

If I'm not mistaken, even the best version of GTA SA (PS2 version, with original graphics), which was on sale on PS4, was removed.
And sony did nothing to bring it back, even though it's one of the key games on PS2 and it's much better than the terrible remastered version.

Personally, I play PS1\2 classics on SteamDeck, including not very famous but cool games that are still great to play even after almost 30 years, such as Nascar Ramble and Ghost in the Shell.

They retain independence (for now.) That was part of the deal and Sony knows what it signed up for.

This is an advertisement for the new game and nothing more. On PC that costs nothing (I assume its running on some sort of free to use Mac emulator), a PS4/5 they would have to make a new control system and test the game.

Guys trust me we don't want this free game on PS, the original games were crap. There is a reason they made halo and not continue on marathon

I might actually have to start putting you all on ignore, which I would hate to do, but it's getting really ridiculous at this point. It's beyond parody.

The game has been available on windows for years. They're just giving what already exists for free. More people are going to play marathon on PC than PS5 and there was really no point in compiling this for PS5.

The original, also delisted, PC version of SA runs laps around the PS2 version. It gets rid of the orange fog, adds better shooting controls and lets you play your own music on the in-game radio. Though you do lose the rampages.

Both are gone now though and will never be coming back due to music licensing issues, unfortunately.

Let's switch the words PC and PS5 and use any other PlayStation game instead of Marathon

The PC port is much worse, without post-processing all the graphics problems are visible, and many visual features were broken in the port.

The controls are better, but there's nothing there that can't be done on a gamepad (at the time, there was no optimal gamepad control standard, so there were some problems).

Pc at least has Mods, the fans can fix anything
