Well, not really. Remote Play was really spotty during the PS3/PSP era and was generally only for a short list of titles + PS1 classics.
Starting with the PS4 Sony made it a required feature for developers and releases across the board, pushing and supporting it at the OS level.
Remote Play checks for updates every time it's launched. If you deny the update you have to sign into PSN anew and manually re-register your console with your PC/Phone/Tablet/Etc. by generating a new PIN every single time you start a Remote Play session. Additionally, you're completely locked...
I'm not sure what justifies this being a PS5 exclusive.
Nothing there looks like it's out of reach for the PS4, even if shadows, ambient occlusion, anti-aliasing, etc. had to be dialed back slightly.
It seems like the only reason it's not a cross-gen game is because we'll be 4 years into the...
You can't though, really.
For the time being I recommend the open-source replacement app "Chiaki," though setting it up will require a bit of tech savvy and some tinkering with Python scripts and installations in order to intercept a PSN login and grab a credential string the app needs in...

Apparently, you can uninstall and search for the installer for previous versions, but if you do so you can only stream over local networks and need to manually re-register the console every time you launch the app.
It's actually a really popular feature that's always worked very solidly on the PS4, which is part of why this sudden mess is so confusing.
Remote Play is great on LAN for playing PS games, for example, at your desk when someone else is using the TV, or to stream to Twitch/YouTube without...
I threw this comparison together really quickly.
Latest version of the official Sony Remote Play app versus Chiaki, an open-source Remote Play app.
I think it's easiest to see the difference in how the official app absolutely CRUSHES the image when the camera pans around the character quickly...
It's definitely not a one-off thing for certain titles or an issue with my particular setup.
People are having the same experience across Reddit and Twitter.
About a week ago Sony pushed an update to the Remote Play app that is so awful I can't figure out what it was meant to improve or how anyone allowed it to be pushed to production. I use Remote Play under Windows 10 to stream from my PS4 Pro on my local network so that I can capture the window...
