The big issue for exclusivity is this isn't 1995 anymore, the massive architectural differences that existed between consoles and PC have gradually eroded. It used to be that a PS version and a Saturn version would be massively different projects that would require separate teams or the same team tackling them one after the other. This is also why you would have games like Splinter Cell with massively different versions on each platform.

The other thing is dev has become very scalable. Can't ship the game as-is on Nintendo Switch 1? Just squash all the life out of the graphics and maybe you can.

The only exception this term has been the Series S, that thing is gimped in the worst ways possible (Primarily RAM size and bandwidth) while still being positioned for next-gen gaming, and thus, truly generational games are not gonna be shipping on it easily.

So for a third party player that's not trying to push the envelope with their games, there is no real technical reason to skip a platform anymore.

The only viable reason is financial, meaning either you don't think you can make money on a platform for whatever reason (Xbox). Or you are being paid tons of cash by another platform for exclusivity (Sony and Nintendo do that), or you are an indie dev and can't justify the cost of launching anywhere by Steam at the moment.

Well you know who's fault it is....
So if you were in Sony's shoes you would forcefully keep the IP away from it's creator, possibly souring the close relationship between SIE and KP.

I'd assume handing the IP to KP has a lot to so with Death Standing 2 and Physint getting greenlit.

So if you were in Sony's shoes you would forcefully keep the IP away from it's creator,

Forcefully? Was Kojima forced to sign any agreement to let Sony have the IP? Did Sony force him to use the Decima Engine too?

possibly souring the close relationship between SIE and KP.

So close, that at the first opportunity he put the game on PC with another publisher. So close, that the announcement for the IP landing on Xbox came just when PS5 Pro was being released. So close, that before announcing Death Stranding 2 and Physint, he announced a Microsoft collaboration.

Nah, there is only one reason for that:

TBH I don't think this criticism should be applicable to Death Stranding in particular as the theme of the game is connecting with people even if you've never met before, it's about bringing disparate groups of people together. I'm sure Kojima would have insisted on the potential to take the game multiplat eventually as a part of the pitch.

At this rate, only Nintendo and Playstation will exist in the future. Nobody wants any other platform, or buys anything anywhere else. We already have our libraries in those systems and don't want to start again from zero elsewhere. PC and Mobile Phones are used mostly to pirate everything that's possible to pirate, which has been proved again and again. Nothing sells there.

Sega and Xbox widows can cry as much as they want, but those platforms disappearead because NOBODY bought the systems or the games 🤷‍♀️ They were too busy pirating everything on their cheap laptops/phones. Nintendo and Playstation will keep exclusives. Third parties are dropping the PC versions because their games get pirated 1st day and destroyed by horrible mods.

And yet they thirst for exclusivity to return to Xbox.

Not everyone thirsts for exclusivity. In regards to Oblivion, even if Microsoft was still the same as before, this game wouldn't be exclusive anyway because the original game was multi-platform.

According to some here, Sony is doing this themselves. lol
