Update: Xbox Series version in the works, but held back by technical issues

Following the announcement that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released for PS5 as well as PC, Larian Studios hasn’t ruled out the game coming to Xbox too.

“Right now Larian is planning to release Baldur’s Gate 3 for PC, Mac, GeForce NOW, and PS5,” a spokesperson told Push Square. “That said, they don’t have exclusivity and will announce support for additional platforms if and when they’re ready.”

While it wasn’t explicit what he was referring to, Larian CEO Swen Vincke also tweeted several hours after the initial announcement:

Relax. We still aren’t playing the exclusivity game.

My take.

They didn't even planned a Xbox release yet (PS userbase is way bigger than Xbox and WRPG sells way better there).
They will look into it after release on PS, PC and Mac.

Why is Geforce Now getting so many mentions lately?
Because there is little to no work.
GeForce Now runs the PC version... you only need to setup it which nVidia helps a lot.
So why not if you already have the version developed?

My take - there's an Xbox Series version already near completion but can't be announced until the day the game releases. See Diablo III for PS3/360 as an example. Lucky for me, I don't care about BD 3 either way so even if Sony did pay for some sort of exclusivity, outside of Kena and FF7R, all the games they're paying for have turned out to be of no interest for me. lmao

Where it’s at.
My take from this:

BG3 can't run on Series S
BG3 runs so poorly on Series X it would be bad Pr to release it
Larian focusing on larger platforms

Yeah, now that you mention it, with how computationally intensive the Baldur’s Gate games could be in combat, things would be UGLY performance-wise on Series S.

More and more, Series S looks like an albatross around the neck of Xbox.

If they have a Mac version I'm sure the series consoles could handle it. Probably not worth it from a installbase perspective though. PS5/PC/Mac already covers most players, an Xbox version would be redundant.

Series S wouldn't be able to run it. And I've had a theory for about 18 months now that the Series X is borked. I think the throughput isn't good enough to what needs to be done on modern day consoles. MS have hid the fact by brute-forcing 3rd party, cross-gen games. I think it's the reason why we haven't seen any exclusives from them. I really believe they are buying their time to re-release the X on the sly, then the games will come.

However, they're running out of time, because what we see with BG3 is just the beginning. We will see more and more 3rd party games struggle on XSX

Probably couldn't see the worth of releasing on a platform that would bring them a handful of sales.

But one has to love the spin of "bad Sony making another exclusive, this is why we need a cumulative almost 80B to compete" and then... Nothing burger.
It’s like the delusion that Sony paid for every Japanese game that skipped Xbox and PC but released on PS4. Just insanity to believe that, but yet…
