A note on Baldur's Gate 3 for Xbox

Hey all,
Thanks for all the hype and enthusiasm following yesterday’s announcement that Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming to PS5 day and date with PC on August 31st!
Xbox players, we’ve seen your questions about if/when you can expect Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox. We’ve had an Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 in the works for some time, but we have run into some technical issues – particularly with split-screen co-op. We are still working on an Xbox version of BG3, but we’re not yet confident enough to announce it. We don’t like announcing anything until we’re ready, because we don’t want to get peoples hopes up until we’re sure we can deliver.
There’s no platform exclusivity preventing us from releasing BG3 on Xbox day and date, should that be a technical possibility. If and when we do announce further platforms, we want to make sure each version lives up to our standards & expectations. Thanks for understanding!

I'm going to bang this drum again. Series S/X can't do split screen. It was borked in the Medium, it is still MIA in Halo and now Larian can't get it working.

Sony is not allowed to get any exclusives. They demand everything must be on their platform (if it's on PS).

They don't have the same outrage when it's PC or Nintendo exclusives.

I don't really understand the need for an Xbox.... a console that is only popular in North America, it just separates people off from playing on PlayStation, which is the defacto global brand.

Now we are at a point where they are trying to force people to buy a brand (with acquisitions) that is internationally unpopular...unpopular because they can't make games and have acted against gamers interests at many important points in the history of gaming.

My sentiment is: let it die.

I am so giddy about the fact that we will likely see the Xbox killed within the year.

Quoting Dabaus and Kiryu from another thread. MS has poured billions into this unprofitable venture out of spite. The faster they transition to 3rd party with gamepass and cloud and get rid of the failed xbox experiment the better.

Microsoft entered the console market to "kill sony" and the codename for the original xbox was "the Manhattan project." you know, like the Manhattan project where the atomic bomb was created and was later dropped on Japan? I cannot understand how sony (or any other japanese company for that mattter) hasnt brought this up publicly.
"And it was granted approval by Bill Gates because Gates wanted every screen in every room of every house to be attached to a product running Windows.

The first hardware prototype for the original Xbox was called Midway, named for the island in the pacific that became the staging point for the US forces in the Pacific Theatre, and that was almost the released name for the system. The only reason they went with Xbox was because that codename had gotten leaked to the games press by developers and MS marketing realized it would be harder to get everyone to stop calling it that than it would be to just make it the official branding."

Wonder if Jez will apologize for jumping the gun?
An xbox fan apologising? More likely they will move the goalposts.

"I always knew it was in development, Larian are obviously working on the superior, ultra-spec version for series X which will take longer than the inferior PS5 port"

I will take my defense on Xbox issues back.
They really have something bad in devtools or hardware.

Sadly you were right @Night Sky.

PS. Sad due the Xbox situation… not you were right ;)

Good to see Sony getting cosy with Larian. They would be a perfect acquisition tsrget to bolster Sony's WRPGs, though ideally keep making PC day one versions
A top quality studio that would feel much at home in the PlayStation verse.
