"Could"
Most people that play COD are on PC and PS, For PC most gamers that want gamepass will have it and on PS people will buy it like they do every year.
Saying could is just throwing darts at a board "could" it be 1 million? 2? 4? sure but in this day and age id say its less likely for a game that most people buy every year anyways.
Is it also nice for a boost of 4mil? sure but its about holding onto those subscriptions but only the diehards keep gamepass.

The biggest problem is crossover.

People who currently have GamePass and would have purchased CoD separately.

In the best of cases you're potentially losing million of sales across PC and Xbox.

The next question is how many people will get GamePass who normally would have just purchased CoD and how long will they keep GamePass. If they keep GamePass Ultimate forever, this will be a benefit, but if they cancel GamePass after playing the campaign and some of the MP... you're in trouble.

How many CoD players on PS4 in particular will buy an Xbox to get CoD via GamePass? This is really your only net positive situation.

So they lose 6 million in sales and maybe get a month or two of GP subs? Oof.

Warzone is free. So the yeah, you're going to get a lot of temporary sign ups to play the campaign.

You'd be dumb to buy the campaign on PC if you could get it for 12 dollars via GamePass albeit in the MS Store.

I can't imagine CoD will remain in GamePass in years to come. You're cutting your sales by 5/6th which is massive.

Considering COD is a yearly release wouldn’t it be more expensive long term to play on Gamepass?

Unless most COD gamers only play each release for a few months?

Many people who don't play CoD fundamentally misunderstand what It is and how it works.

There are annual releases for CoD. This has a single player campaign that is generally pretty short and it has an online multiplayer. CoD also has a battle royal called Warzone which is F2P.

People are largely paying the 70 dollars for MP Online.

CoD can sell anywhere from 25-30 million copies annually across devices.

If you plan on just playing the campaign (small percentage), yeah you're going to get gamepass and cancel right away. Small percentage of players.

Then there are players who will get GamePass to play the MP online for a few months, but the game is also constantly on sale for 50 dollars. The incentive is not there to become a permanent GamePass subscriber unless you actually like the value of GamePass. If anything, this is more of a retention tool for those already with GamePass and who play CoD.

Lol what did I say. This is Gamepass’s last major push for what Phil wanted it to be.

If it doesnt move the subs up 3-4 months, Gamepass project as 1st party games day 1 will be dead. Well for major games anyway.

Lets see it dies boy!

The CCU peak for the launch of the new COD is 254k, that's a big drop from the 491k from two years ago.

Sales are cannibalize for sure.

Well this isn’t actually accurate anymore because you’re looking at Call of Duty HQ which is a combination of numerous games. You can’t see how each game is doing.

A shame because I’m fairly certain arena cod has been cannabalized by the br as the bottom line for player engagement etc. . Before cod hq combined everything you saw rainbow six beating arena cod on console for a short spell.

I’m sure there’s the desire for Activision to make a f2p arena version of cod alongside Warzone and drop the boxed games. With that said, I expect a big drop in sales with this latest game … assisted by gamepass. So that might be in the future anyway.

CCU peak launches for CoD HQ(includes MW2/Warzone 2.0/MW3/Black Ops 6):

CCUs during MW2 launch weekend:
Fri - 238,522
Sat - 247,839
Sun - 263,147

CCUs during MW3 launch weekend

Fri - 177,881
Sat - 182,765
Sun - 190,707

CCUs during BLOPS 6 launch weekend:

Fri - 254,379
Sat - 251,251(currently ahead of yesterday by 45k~)
Sun - ???

The all-time peak of 491k was due to MW2 2022 coming out in October and 1 month later Warzone 2.0 which was a separate F2P download. I don't think we're getting back to those kinds of numbers for CoD anytime soon, even if Gamepass wasn't a thing. It was just one of those "you had to be there" moments for the CoD fanbase.

Based on the numbers we're seeing, it looks like BLOPS 6 is going to a bigger launch than MW3 at the very least.
Which isn't a big surprise, MW3 was a half-baked entry just so they could have a yearly game.

Edit: Wrong number

It will boost gamepass numbers by exactly 0. Anyone who wanted to play call of duty will already be on gamepass because you can't play multiplayer games without it. So you get some players migrating to a higher tier... Those aren't new customers. Anyone who was cheapskate enough to want to only play the singleplayer on gamepass already has gamepass.

You're conflating the former Xbox Live Gold which is now included in GamePass Core, but does not include CoD with GamePass Ultimate (which does include CoD).

Xbox Shills be like: "Nuh uhh, they only care about subscriptions!1!11!"

Yeah, that worked so well for them the past years, that their Platform transcended into a Amazon Fire Stick, with no Money left for marketing (Yet 80b to buy Publishers!). Let's face it: BO6 will not move the needle in any meaningful way, and especially not in the long term.

People will just play the Campaign and bore themselves out on the Multiplayer, and then dip like: "I just paid $20, so no reason to invest anymore!".

MS is so incompetent, they can't even bank on Sunken Cost Fallacy anymore :ROFLMAO:

Are COD review embargos always this late? Only 2 reviews posted on Open Critic

8.5 from Xboxera
9 from IGN

Getting that low a score from a shill site like Xboxera suggests to me the reviews might not be as sky high as some were speculating.
The mark of quality. It got the same score as Redfall so make of that what you will.

It won't boost it by four million. But hell, let's say it does. How long does that boost last? One month? Two months? It isn't sustainable when it's just cheaper to buy the game than it is to buy gamepass.
It means they can announce the new number and never mention it again when it flatlines. The last number we heard officially was when they diddled the gold into Gamepass branding for the spike in numbers. Journalists and fanboys will naturally think it went higher later without proof as they have historically. So 39m could be officially announced next month and then a year later someone will say that it likely grew another 3 million because reasons.

That is what grind my gears, if xbots or "neutrals" start with but ps should've kept japan studios open, bla bla. ps proved them all wrong by having astrobot this year.

At the same time the same people defended hi fi rush low sales with gamepass.

And then when ms closed their only Japanese studio Tango stating low sales....

Its crickets from them, but gamepass wasn't a excuse a company was allowed to make. The double standards and hypocrisy is enormous.

So the stakes are unbelievably high for COD who can't use the gamepass excuse for low sales.
