Kojima has done more harm than good to PlayStation and it's about time to admit, he was the one who opened the door for PC releases
He’s like the only guy who has released an exclusive every PS console. Up to Sony how they do there deals going forward

Nonsense.

For example, why do many Nintendo consoles fail when they have a hardcore and loyal fanbase who always buy anything Nintendo.

What "many consoles" failed? N64? The system that was competitive with PS1 in the West and still beat the Saturn > 3:1 despite releasing almost two full years later? Gamecube, the system that still had huge 1P hits like Smash Bros. Melee and MK: Double Dash? The Wii U, which still has the highest attach rate relative install base for any system ever on average? Those "failures"?

The truth of the matter is, outside of a brief period with 3DS in its first year, Nintendo never lost money on any system. Not. Once. They've been profitable with every device or in cases like Virtual Boy & 64DD, contained/quarantined the failure before it became anything more than a footnote on their bottom line. They wouldn't forgo foresight and release something like Concord into the gaming space, letting it play out the way modern SIE does.

And that speaks volumes to differences in their leadership these days, IMHO.

Don’t give yourself so much importance.

I don't have to. The typical buying patterns of casuals & mainstream, & the typical spending habits of hardcore & core gamers (who make up the early adopters), say enough for me. We have generations of consoles to prove it.

Most Playstation gamers right now numbering 100 million across 2 platforms don’t give a damn about us or these forums and neither the Death Stranding IP being sold.

And? I'm not speaking for them. I'm speaking for myself and those who feel similar about the precedent this now invites, the optics it creates for the brand, and the implications it'll likely have for the brand going forward.

They are busy playing FIFA, COD, Fortnite and GTA.

Cool, let them have their fun. But for me, gaming is SIGNIFICANTLY more involved than just those IP. Like, those IP barely register with me compared to the games I genuinely love.

But I'd bet you it's those like myself, & other hardcore & core enthusiasts, who love those other IP, who are the reasons the industry ever got big enough to support the FIFAs, CODs, Fortnites & GTAs in the first place. The people who only play those massive mainstream IP, are not the backbone of gaming.

What....the..... actual....fuck!!!!

Are they trying to piss me off intentionally?
Yes. There's a picture of you posted in the executive office of Sony HQ, which is connected to a vision board of methods to induce your vitriol.

Executive bonuses utilize a KPI metric doomer-to-hopium post ratio from your post history over the past fiscal quarter.

Tells me everything about you.

On your planet those consoles weren’t failures.

In the real world the successes were the Wii and Switch which targeted the casual market.

Not the way you think they do. Hardcore & core enthusiasts are the ones who light the fire to get the engine going, so to speak, when it comes to a console's longer-term prospects. They're the ones who drive early engagement and growth, which makes the platform appealing for the casual majority that tend to jump in later.

Which makes your claim even more nonsensical.

The DVD player industry doesn't.
The radio industry doesn't.
The computer industry doesn't.
The tablet industry doesn't.
The supermarket industry doesn't.

You will continue to see fewer and fewer exclusives as you're pulled into the Games as the platform era. Funny watching the stragglers...
The computer industry doesn’t… explain dlss then? Why Nvidia doesnt release or work with amd to support their cards? I’ll give you a minute for you to figure out

The supermarket industry doesn’t… hey you can only buy that cheese from Lidl.

DVD player industry is dead… I wonder why

The radio industry? Lol
“Tune in Monday for an exclusive interview with billie Jean”

Bwahaha!! All your analogies are ridiculous.

Keep being surprised when exclusivity is lost. I guess you want to live in that fantasy.

The way I busted out laughing at you listing industries that aren't dependent on software / hardware sales 🤣

But remember when HD DVD / Blu Ray were competing? What did they do to try and sway consumers?

How is my analogy wrong?

Any business needs some kinda of exclusivity. Why would anyone buy an Xbox in this day and age? When you could literally buy anything else that does the same and more?

Why ps3 didn’t completely die? Cause you couldn’t play tlous, uncharted gran turismo etc anywhere else. If by any chance those games were on Xbox there wouldn’t be PlayStation today.

Exclusives are essential to any business it’s called unique selling point for a reason.

Hell Xbox still rely on some kind exclusivity to sell their consoles still.

The DVD player industry doesn't.

Only Sony makes Sony DVD/Blu-Ray players with their proprietary tech. Same with Matsushita/Panasonic, LG, Samsung, I could go on and on. They all have exclusive patents on technologies only they are legally allowed to use.

But exclusivity for corpos is perfectly fine, I take it? But customers valuing and championing the benefits of software exclusivity for gaming platforms is BS? A step too far? Miss me with this.

The radio industry doesn't.

Ditto as above.

The computer industry doesn't.

Microsoft have IP, copyright and patent rights exclusivity to the Windows kernel, Windows OS, Direct X GDK & APIs, Office, Notepad, Word, and Visual Basic among other things. But exclusivity of tech rights is fine for Big Tech corpos to people like you, huh?

Apple have IP, copyright & patent rights exclusivity to Mac OS, iOS, Apple Arcade, the CPU, GPU & NPU tech they use in Mac laptops & desktops, the iPhone etc. Perfectly fine tho, right?

The tablet industry doesn't.

Same as above.

The supermarket industry doesn't.

Why does Target own the exclusive copyright to their logo and store slogans? Walmart? ALDI?

You will continue to see fewer and fewer exclusives as you're pulled into the Games as the platform era. Funny watching the stragglers...

Funny watching corporate bootlickers who excuse multi-billion & multi-trillion dollar global conglomerates practice all types of exclusivity for IP, copyright, patents etc., but chastise paying gaming customers who wanting exclusives to justify their $500+ investment into a hardware platform.

Must admit that I didn't see this happening. Of course, it is a five year old game in which Sony isn't going to make much/if any more money on so selling off the IP to Kojima who let's be honest created the game and is one of the industry's all time best if anything is a showing of respect. I do now expect Death Stranding 2 to be a timed exclusive for PlayStation and then release on Xbox a year or two later which makes sense because while I will give Kojima credit for having the balls to do what he wants when he wants and while his games are definitely unique, original and innovative, Death Stranding is NOT for everywhere.

Regardless of if you're an Xbox fan or a PlayStation fan, you really need to accept what the industry is truly becoming which is going to be more about the platform and eco-system, your digital library, backwards compatibility and where your friends play games at than any form of exclusivity which is decreasing with every passing year. The only true exclusive hardware manufacturer is and forever will be Nintendo. Like I tweeted to Thicc on Twitter, at the end of the day, it's all about playing the games that YOU want to play where YOU want to play them. It's that simple.

People holding on to all of this shit like it's their fucking identity and who they are is equally as pathetic as identity politics in general. Time to let all of this other shit go and just enjoy yourselves.

HD DVD vs Blu Ray were competing formats, not movie playing manufacturers.

Nobody has any idea what this means.

Sony, Phillips, and Samsung all make DVD / Blu Ray Players. None of them have exclusive movies. You're confusing exclusive features, with exclusive content, which doesn't exist. As the GAAP era grows, these hardware manufacturers will begin distinguishing themselves with...you guessed it...the hardware.

"Some kind of exclusivity"

Yeah, like price, power, aesthetics, controller... The next 30 years of gaming is about getting the platform (games) into as many hands as possible. There's too much money to be made on PC, mobile, Nintendo, XBox and streaming to lock it onto a console that can't sell over 120 million units.

It baffles the mind how people want to resist inevitability.

Man you said in the past you saw a lot of bullshit takes on this forum. You could at least have admitted to being responsible for 90% of them.

Imagine going up to a Best Buy employee and asking him/her "Now which movies are exclusive to this Sony Blu Ray player?"

You guys are the Black Knight from Monty Python.
