They are asking that since Gamepass become a thing.

If you are not a indie that wants to use the MS pre payment to get visibility of your game on Gamepass... then you are fucked because nobody will buy games with the excuse of "waiting to come to Gamepass".

So what the point?
Release in all others platform and when you have some spare time port it to Xbox and get the MS check for Gamepass.

Gamepass doesn't support investing big chunk of money in game development.
MS is releasing in others platform because their own first-party development costs were not sustained with Gamepass.

Original source is Christopher Dring on his latest podcast episode btw. He says developers/publishers are baffled by Xbox's multiplatform strategy and wonder why they bother to support the console.

Pretty sure pure Xbox hardware is doomed from a third party perspective next gen, that's why they're now investing all their resources into basically turning Xbox into a PC so they get de facto third party support.

Baffled at what all of us have been saying here for years... Kinda funny.

Dring has reported on this before. Devs and publishers are seeing a Sega transition from Xbox and some want to know what Microsoft’s endgame will be. They’re pretty much like “ayo, safe us the trouble and just tell it to us straight Microsoft.” I think they are tired of the song and dance and tip toeing and whatnot.

The answer is they shouldn't unless they want to run into a brick wall called "I'll wait for it to be on gamepass"
The only exceptions are sports games and possibly bro shooters

I suspect the next Xbox is a rebranded pc that supports legacy BC

So going forward devs won’t need to optimize for Xbox hardware. It’s just the PC release

Xbox series consoles will be their last truly closed platform devs will optimize for specifically

Yes, they should officially announce they’re ending Xbox.

What they’re doing is dirty to both consumers and publishers. Stop wasting everyone’s time.

People already see the writing on the wall snd hardware sales are bound to come to a screeching hault
I was actually thinking the same thing earlier today. It's kind of weird how Microsoft is stringing their console users along while taking major steps to being a third party publisher.

The next Xbox being announced as a PC Box will be the moment I guess. If they don't just outright cancel it after their sales reach zero with the price increase.

They will never officially announce a end to Xbox as a console.
They'll just simply only make Xbox branded PCs which may or may not be allowed to run the Xbox version of games.

Yeah not officially maybe but its a little disingenuous of them to call a PC Box a console imo

I'm curious what kind of specs that they will fit into a PC box. They're charging $600 US for a Series X now.

I guess there will be different tiers? Starting at $999 for the low end, $1500 for a mid range and $2000 for a high end?

Sounds like a good plan... (no lol)

what I kept telling you.

I have seen these articles for years and instead of support decreasing for the Xbox platform, it's actually been increasing. Their third party support is literally the best it's ever been. The only games they miss out on are games that Sony has an exclusivity deal for. Other than that, what games have they missed out on? I have played every third party game that I have wanted to play on my Xbox Series X this generation so no worries here.

Lol why is he trying to do a 180

Total Dridiot.

The fact of the matter is this: if games don't sell on Xbox, publishers won't release on Xbox. And games don't sell on Xbox, so fewer games are releasing on Xbox, so fewer users will buy an Xbox, so fewer games will sell on Xbox.

It's a vicious cycle all the way to 0.
