Xbox Series S: 1080p with 60fps upscaling (from 831p dynamic resolution)
Xbox Series X: 2160p with 60fps upscaling (from 1440p dynamic resolution)
PS5: 2160p with 60fps upscaling (from 1440p dynamic resolution)
PS5 Pro: 2160p with 60fps upscaling (from 1662p dynamic resolution)
  • All platforms have a single 60fps display mode.
  • The field of view (FOV) is adjustable on all platforms. For this comparison, it was set at 105.
  • The Xbox Series S has widespread visual cuts: level of detail, rendering distance, textures, global illumination, post-processing
  • The resolution on the Xbox Series S can drop to 635p in open environments.
  • The PS5 has a lower average resolution compared to the Xbox Series X, but with slight improvements in vegetation and terrain.
  • The PS5 Pro brings occasional improvements to this game: higher maximum resolution, better anisotropic filtering and small advances in rendering distance.
  • In terms of performance, 60fps is practically perfect on all platforms.
  • IDTech has once again impressed us with cutting-edge visuals and a stability that few games can achieve.

DF

XSS : 648p~900p.
  • Tearing and framerate drop.

PS5/XSX : 1080p~1440p.
  • The 2 versions are visually similar, but there are a few differences in terms of tree animation, which is present on PS5 and absent on XSX.
  • Shadow maps also move on PS5 but not on XSX.
  • Image quality on XSX is slightly sharper and has a better framerate with 60fps almost locked.

PS5 Pro : 1296p~1800p.
  • No PSSR, just TAA as on other versions.
  • Better framerate than the PS5 but slightly worse than the XSX.

  • VRS used + FOV on all versions, but less consistent on Sony consoles.
  • No RT reflections on consoles.

The PS5 Pro enhancements are pretty weak. I might go for Expedition 33 before starting this game.

In terms of performance, 60fps is practically perfect on all platforms.
  • Xbox Series X: Performance is "perfect" in DF testing, no dips from 60fps.
  • Xbox Series S: Performance sees some dips in larger areas with heavy combat, otherwise sticks close to 60
  • PS5: drops performance to the mid 50's. Feels a little less than Series S
  • PS5 Pro: Frame rate is better than base PS5 but large area open combat still shows drops to mid 50's

Underutilised or not, the best place to play this Microsoft-published title is once again PS5 pro.

PC is never the best place to play anything because it's a workstation.

Surprising I expected ID to make use of the features and let it shine. With this being a game key card bs as well I'm going to skip it until a very deep discount.
Also the PC performance, embarrassing results for the 50 series.

tbf bethesda didn't own id software, zenimax did. they've been going downhill since all the oldheads left. carmack in 2013 and tim willits in 2019 are the last of the old guard, I don't expect them to be the legendary id of old anymore.

The performance target is nice to see tbh. Even if the pro enhancements are lacking.

  • Talk about bullshit from MS. How they hell does XSX have better framerate than PS5 Pro, they should have more options

Right now both PS5 and PS5 Pro has performance issues not existent on Series X.

So it is not the best place to play.

Are you sure you can trust DF when they say that?
Knowing their bias and agenda, I have a hard time accepting anything they say at face value.
