Co-op gaming is on the rise for sure, probably most noticeable on Steam with all the indie games and the PC shooter variety but I'm sure it's a trend for all platforms.
COVID had devs across wanting some of that socializing and this is the result.

This is their first MP title, I don't think it's safe to assume that they know what they're doing in that department, regardless of game quality.
