In a sense the focus of much of the industry is GaaS because companies make more money on service type games that sell tons of "extras" inside the game itself.

Single player AAA is still present, but this is no longer the bread and butter of the industry.
How much has GoW:R made? $300 million? $400 million? more than $500 million in two months?

How many GAAS make anywhere close to that?

The do the same comparison for TLoU, Returnal, Ratchet, Horizon, Uncharted. Sure, Fortnite might make billions from selling costumes of the most famous characters in all of media, at $20 per item, but the vast, vast majority of GAAS earn nowhere near what Sony does with 1 game.

The notion and Idea that GAAS is a magic, money making, too-big-to-fail concept is ludicrous, and when inspected closely, the observant people can see how it is nothing but a scam.

ratio gap between successful GaaS games vs Single Player is huge. yes, there is successful GaaS games but number is very small and even then, these games are milked to no end.
if 1 publisher manage to make 1 successful GaaS, then that is called huge success. on other hand, successful SP games hits market every year.

GaaS games are much cheaper to make and bring a constant income flow. Also, assuming success the income flow is more predictable, imagine how much money a game like WoW or Fortnite made over its lifetime?

Don't get me wrong I hate these things and won't touch them with a 6ft pole.

Modern online games ARE NOT cheap to make.

Redfall is more expensive and bigger than any previous Arkhane game.

Every online game is a service game. Every single one. It’s a game of semantics. The only thing that determines continued support is whether it’s a success or not. See Halo Infinite for more information.
