You know what’s worse?

FF7r did the same… so just as badly.

5 million today is selling thru 1 million in 2002.

PS - 343 sucks and Halo 5 is an abomination and biggest piece of trash campaign in the series.

He'd only know what it sold up until 2017 or whatever, he might even be quoting something like a launch window sale... but I doubt it's sold that much in the last 5 years either.

Probably at least up to 8 million or so by now wouldn't you think?

MS fucked up Halo and they fucked up by focusing their brand so much on Halo. They needed to diversify their AAA portfolio and just flat out ignored that during some key years that are still biting them in the ass.

This came out prior to Gamepass being the second best deal in gaming I presume?

Probably got higher in the last five years but that sounds pretty good to me, especially considering that the game sucks.

Sure it sold less than Halo 3 or 4 but it had a much smaller user base and much more competition.

Halo 5 is 7 years old, that's it? Oh hell nah. But we all know Halo been on the decline.
Halo 5 might not have sold to expectations, but Halo Infinite has bombed, taking into number of players, and almost surely sales too.

Halo is about to become MS's third best FPS franchise.

Destiny is likely a lot more successful on Xbox, than Halo is on XBox.. at this point.

An interesting aspect to the story of how Halo has certainly become less and less relevant.

The guy can still get the data. You keep those work relationships forever …

And it’s not like Halo 5 was some perennial seller.
I doubt at every level that he's been keeping tabs on Halo 5 sales since he left the job 5 years ago. Fact of the matter is that 6.6 million is likely very outdated, even stinkles said they had hit 5 million sales in 3 months.

Not saying it has sold leaps and bounds beyond that but it would be fair to assume it's more likely in the 8 million range.

Seems the franchise was much more successful when developed by Sony

It their main IP sold 6.6M, I assume their other IPs were selling worse. It makes more understandable that they prefered to switch to a more subcription focused business.
Yes. Why worry about subscriptions eating into game sales if your games don't sell anyway!

The X1 sold fewer consoles than the 360. Not surprising the games on the X1 also sold less.
Warming up to the importance of console sales, I see 😄

You were just arguing in that other thread that Sony's success does not hurt Xbox. This is just one prime example of how it does. PS4's success meant fewer Xbox One sales, which leads to fewer Halo 5 sales, which leads to a mess of a Halo Infinite that failed even after going F2P. It's a vicious cycle.

Yeah.

And since the rest of platform holders and 3rd party game publishers rely on game sales and on having a profitable business, if the GP model would become dominant it would kill the entire gaming industry except MS because they don't care about having giant loses with their gaming business. And if all the other publishers, developers and platform holders die then MS would finally dominate the market and become market leaders! Phil's galaxy mind.
