What are the issues people have with traversal climbing? I know at launch some were saying it was buggy or kinda broken, but I've had no issues with climbing, with and without guides. If the argument is that it's too simplistic, then can't that be made about a lot of other games' climbing, too?

I guess the awards season kicks off sooner than I thought, guessed it would've started in the Fall. But congrats to HFW; now if I can just make more time to finish it along.

Don't you worry your head; ER's gonna clean house and it'll probably win TGA's GOTY because it's a very safe pick (alongside being one of the best releases of the year).

But that doesn't mean it's going to win EVERY GOTY award or even most awards outside of GOTY. And if you don't care much about TGA's GOTY, then it looks much more competitive as a whole.
Watch the segment about climbing in chris davis video.
The climbing is jerky, animations stop and start as it does not flow.
The climbing points are almost impossible to judge without witcher vision. And then, all edges glow yellow. But on other, same looking rock walls, there are no climbing points.
The climbing is so very selective only in parts it needs to be. It's just a quest pathway and does not work naturally.

Dont have to watch a video on it, most of us have played it and feel its fine.

But I don't need to watch his video because I've been playing it ;)

Just going off my own experience, it's not really that jerky. Yes there are obvious points where animations are switching between reaching to lunging to moving along the surface, but that was going to be the case no matter what. It's still a video game at the end of the day. Maybe if it wasn't a cross-gen game they could've added more transition animation frames to make it seem more natural/seamless but it's good enough as-is IMO.

Sometimes the fact you can't climb one surface that should seem climbable, simply because of the design requirements of a quest, are kind of frustrating. But I also understand why it's done that way. In any case you get feedback after your first attempt, pulling up the Focus can also give you a quick answer without even needing to try climbing it. But especially in the open-world portions where you're just traversing and doing your own thing, vast majority of what looks climbable is climbable. I use it to my advantage to get vantage points when attacking machines (it's preferable over melee combat).

Ratchet won best technical innovation, Horizon got best game and best visual art, and Media Molecule got 'marketing star', I assume because of the work they do with their community, like with the Dreams awards.

Funny GIF

Never heard of The Develop:Star Awards but congrats to the team i guess
They are the awards of the Develop conference, the most important conference for gamedevs in Europe. I think they also make the MVC Develop magazine, the most important magazine for gamedevs.

Nah, media bias is what I call the inflated review scores of the very few Xbox exclusives and the nitpicking for every PlayStation exlusive.
To be fair, I'd say they both have inflated scores and nitpicky communities. Games like Halo Infinite was praised at launch and even received some goty awards (but look at it now) but the halo community especially on reddit shit on the game constantly. A LOT of people shit on Starfield trailer and the game hasn't even come out yet. Playstation has a lot of highly praised games that also come under close scrutiny but they generally review pretty well, especially first party games, and often considered the best in the business. I guess my tldr is, they're about equal.

ER is really amazing, stunning, beautiful and I loved the game! But I still prefer Horizon because it's more polished, with a meaningful main character and a great presentation.

Reviewers have a much lower standard for Xbox games. If Horizon FW was an Xbox exclusive it would get a 95 MC score at the very least.

If Halo was a PlayStation game it would have a MC score in the low 70s.

It's all about balancing the narrative so that people wont see that the console war is over and that Xbox lost a decade ago.

He is mostly talking about media and not the community.

Xbox games have a log of free pass and receive from media big scores even when there is serious flaws. Sony games have discounted scores for any flaw found even the subjective flaws.

Said that I like that… that push Sony to reach perfection in quality… how do you fight media bias? Delivery a product where that media have to praise even with his bias.
