IGN reporters have spoken with numerous individuals in publishing and PR who typically have knowledge of event strategies, all of whom expressed concern about the status of this summer’s event. Many told us that they hadn’t heard of anyone else who was planning to attend for sure, and some said they felt there had been a significant lack of communication from the ESA and organizer ReedPop as to what exactly they should expect from the show. Several described the situation as one where everyone was waiting for someone else to be the first to jump, but no one was willing to take the leap – and time was running out.

As one knowledgeable source put it ahead of the Monday news of Ubisoft’s departure from the show, “There’s no possible way this show can happen.”

Neither ESA nor ReedPop responded to IGN's request for comment in time for publication.

It's dead. Slain by the hand of the beast it was promoting.

Let it die.

Each publisher can have their own shows, spread it out during spring/summer

Sad to see so called gamers pushing for E3 to be canceled. It’s been a part of gaming culture and history since the 90’s. Putting trailers on YouTube is not anywhere near the same as having a show floor and press conference.

What does the show floor do for gamers, really?

Well here’s my opinion, with E3 there was an avalanche of news, lots of things got lost in the mess. All the gaming journalism did was gives updates and sometimes didn’t got it right.
Most of us do have fond memories but it’s either because of very cringe/funny moments or surprises. Let’s not forget all those fake trailers being used, halo, watchdogs, killzone…

What I miss, is the big showcases. Specially from the big 3 but those even changed. Microsoft became like a bad copy of an Apple conference, Sony and Nintendo stopped doing it. Ubisoft got stupider and you would fall asleep watching EA conferences.

The gaming industry did lost its ability to awe and surprise people and now are more focus on giving tiny updates on YouTube. That is sad.

I could see Summer Showcase just replacing the role of E3 in coming years if they change it a bit
