Is there a worse phrase in gaming than "Nobody asked for this?"

They do it because there's a market for it. People want these remasters.
Is the market in the room with us right now?

Okay in all seriousness though it is a lame phrase because there's always someone who asked for it. Always. Even if its just one person there is always someone who was interested in thing

and I want remasters of Ape Escape 1, 2, 3, Okage: Shadow King, Dark Cloud, Dark Cloud 2, Legend of Dragoon, inFamous 1 & 2, and Resistance 1-3 (plus Burning Skies) yet here we are

Until Dawn outsold all of those games combined (excluding Infamous and Resistance).

Sony can make a cheap horror movie based on Until Dawn and it will potentially help push the game.

They can't make cheap movies or tv shows about infamous and resistance.

Who asked for Concord? or Dustborne? or Forspoken? or a REALLY shit version of HALO? Or some limp-wristed commies masquerading as 'The Saints'. Or a Gollum game? Or Redfall? Who asked to replace Alan Wake as the main character in his own game?
Who's looking forward to the eventual 'Last of Us 3' after the 2nd game? Who asked for Avowed? or Anthem? Andromeda? Who asked for Dragon Age Veilguard of all things? Who asked for a black samurai in ass-creed?

The question was always obviously a facetiously rhetorical one because we all know the answer is effectively 'no one asked for this'.
It's just a prominent meme right now because there happens to be a lot of shit that no one asked for being shilled to the masses. So the general sentiment will be to continue to mock games until morale and quality improve.

I read this comment ("Nobody asked for this") and I cringe every time. Can we all agree it should never be said and it's completely out of touch with the way creativity works?

Remasters exists because there's a market for it. It's that simple. Publishers have the data that shows that there's a significant amount of players who play old games. It is what it is.

Remasters are cheap to make and generate revenue for years. People forget that not everyone has played the original game. And the beauty is that if it's not for you, then don't buy it and move on with your life.

Remasters are also a great way to keep some devs busy while prepping a new game. It can get them used to a new engine, for example. Otherwise we would see more layoffs.

In the case of Until Dawn, they get a new audience for PC only folks, and once on Steam the game will keep selling for years and years, like collecting rent money with no extra effort.

Take Two isn't complaining that GTA5 is still selling after all those years.

not until they stop remastering games that are only one generation old

Aren’t you and your fellow PC Folk still begging for Bloodborne?

Supposedly that game will prove why PC is a great market for Sony games.

There is huge demand for it.

Guess I was wrong.

unless it's Bloodborne am I right?
Yeah but they don't need to do anything to the game, a straight port would be more than fine
I will admit I would not mind a remaster if it would give Sony an excuse to do so, but
Bloodborne as is, at 4k 60fps would be more than fine. No touch ups to its textures, models, lighting, or anything like that is needed. I feel similarly for Gravity Rush and Gravity Rush 2.
