Those are horrible ps5 hardware numbers. Instead of price hikes, it needs a severe price cut.

Bruh now way the japanese buy so many switches, they are about to hit 35 million. No way a switch is owned by a 3rd of the population. Most of them are exported to china or europe as yen is very weak. I didn't believe the weekly 50k PS5 sales as well

But I was told all the ps5s were exported!

How is it possible that the top 3 spots are PS5 games now... Makes no sense.. UNLESS!

Guess we were right again.

Using what I saw in Japan in DS days...

People there buys multiples editions of potable devices... Japanese there buy the original, Lite, OLED, colors, etc.
So each people trend to have more than 1 model of DS.

I think the same happens with Switch.
And it is a normal behavior of Japanese customers.

If they are buying multiple models of switch I don't know what to say lol, I have 2 that I own- the original and the oled and even then I think its 1 more than needed

BTW the PS5 was being discounted the last two weeks in Japan.
So it was not the price rise the issue.

It seems like Sony is phasing out the actual model there.

It is too much to me :D
One is enough.

But that is different market... in Japan you trend to have better results with colors and special editions than western countries... they like to collect gadgets too.
And what happened with DS is true... I had a lot of friends living there for a period that keep in talk with me almost daily (I mean Brazilians with Japanese descent working there).

Such a big week and it barely moves the hardware needle

Japan is lost

Hardware sales aren't the issue for PS5 in Japan (at least not until more recently). It was software.

This is one of the few weeks where software sales are actually really good for PS5. Let's not downplay that by conflating its bigger struggle in Japan with hardware (again, at least until the big price increase last month). For SIE, Atlus, and Bandai-Namco's sakes, Metaphor and DBZ Sparking Zero have strong legs in the region (at least DBZ will certainly have long legs globally).

but iconera told me this game was a flop was does it have the number 1 spot and the number 4 spot?

Guess who doesn't have marketing for the game in Japan?

Microsoft.

Guess what platform was actually allowed to be mentioned in marketing there?

PlayStation.

Week 204

- PS2 : 14.502.468
- PS1 : 12.814.462
- PSP : 10.474.349
- PS5 : 6.082.497
- PS4 : 6.001.658
- PS3 : 5.555.463
- PSV : 4.179.467

The gap is closing, at this rate in 2-3 weeks the PS4 will be ahead of it.

Try going to a Japanese retail website and finding a PS5 available to buy.

but the game is doing well in the UK as well

EDIT: removed US because I can't find any stats specifically for North America
I'm kind of baffled everyone's focus on the marketing. I've not met a person who was unaware the game was on Playstation. I've met people that didn't know the game existed, but not people unaware its on Playstation. Atlus hasn't made an Xbox exclusive since SMT Nine in 2002.
