According to someone who spoke with the Art Department at UnrealFest '23 New Orleans, Metal gear Solid 3 Delta will be on Unreal Engine, and that the game will be extremely faihful to the original because of Konami's fear on potential backlashes:

Take the information with a Grain of Salt

  • The game's environments are almost fully done and they've been working on it for almost 3 years. and we should expect a release date announcement.
  • The game design has not changed a single bit. There is no open world. It's a full on facial uplift. All the environments are done from the ground up. Main Reason is that Konami is playing this one really close to the chest and they knew changing the game without Kojima would cause them unnecessary PR issues. So the game largely stays the same.
  • The team I spoke to were environment artists. They didn't give information about the characters or VO. But they had no reason to believe anything about the story or acting has changed. They did say they saw the character models and mentioned they looked great with high poly art .
  • They mentioned the usage Level Streaming. So we could perhaps assume the full game may use seamless transitions between the levels instead of clear cut fade to black/loads.

That is one way to make a complete different game… you start with a different engine.

Let’s see how the gameplay turn out.

I wonder about gameplay. Will this be TLOU remake situation where they reuse character animations or can we expect brand new gameplay, like that of MGSV?

Or... Just hear me out... You use a new engine to remake the game because the old engine is over 20 years old.

It's a like for like remake, including voice acting.

Keep the game the same. But no1 will complain for adding optional new content.
Also I hope the shooting and controls are more like MGS5 then MGS3/2/1

MGS 3 was not a perfect game by any means. We will get the original game, on modern platforms this year.

So I am looking forward for a REmake situation and hopefully not RE3make.

So it will not be a like to like game.
That is why I said I wait to see how the gameplay turns out.

It's literally like for like. You can replicate the engine features, etc, in a new engine and make the game like for like.

Did you show the Darkness what Light can do?

Does Konami even have any internal devs anymore? I’d imagine not really. Too bad for Fox Engine I guess.

You can take that "Rumor" tag off.

It has been known for years now that MGS3R was using Unreal Engine.

Konami does have an entire division for AAA game development, formed a few years ago. Completely separate from Pachinko and their other gacha games. At least that's what their most recent restructure shows.

That is not how it works.
You will see when it release.

Engines have a hard time to imitate others… including gameplay where different engines has different render times.

That is the reason Infinity Ward choose to stay with an ancient modified Source engine after tested new engines for Titanfall.

That is why you can’t replicate Destiny out of this world gunplay in others engines.

Cool story bro. This is why, barring a few physics glitches, the GTA Remastered trilogy plays the same on a different engine, and it was ported by a shit studio.

Or how sonic mania literally plays like old sonic in a new engine.

What you're saying is nonsense, like you're so used to.

Are you trolling, no?

GTA San Andreas original is way superior to that shit remastered version… including gameplay.

Plus Sony Mania has a complete different gameplay… if you like the original Sonic gameplay avoid Mania.

It is not nonsense… different engines results in different games.

Mania plays pretty much the same as the original sonic, that's the whole point of that game engine.

San Andreas remastered, as well as the other, play pretty much the same. The games are shittier overall, yes, but the games play the same.

You're wrong on both accounts.

It doesn’t.
That is why some people prefer tinplate the originals over Mania.

GTA San Andreas remastered doesn’t play like original too.

Nope I’m right no these.
You probably needs to play more games.

So did Konami watch a MGS3 Unreal demo on YouTube where the comments were all “hire this man!” and did just that?

On a serious note I don’t know if this game needs a 1:1 remake if they’re not going to mess with the gameplay mechanics or even the movement and level design. Something you shouldn’t do without the original creator anyway. I’m not excited.
