Microsoft - Activision Deal Reportedly also concerns Google

Sony apparently isn’t isolated when it comes to expressing concerns about the Microsoft Activision deal. Where Microsoft found an unlikely ally in Facebook’s parent company Meta, Sony reportedly has Google in its camp. It’s unclear what specific concerns Google, which recently announced the shutdown of Stadia, has.

Microsoft Activision acquisition threatens Google’s cloud deal

Activision Blizzard and Google announced in January 2020 that they entered into a multi-year partnership, as part of which Activision Blizzard has been utilizing Google’s cloud services. A year later, Microsoft came into the picture with its own cloud solution in Azure. Microsoft is legally obligated to honor Activision Blizzard’s contracts should the acquisition go ahead, but it’s highly unlikely that it’ll extend the publisher’s current partnerships. That’s a concern Sony shares as well, especially when it comes to Call of Duty.

According to a new report by Dealreporter (via SeekingAlpha), Google joined Sony in expressing its reservations about the consolidation to European Union regulators. The search engine maker previously voiced its concerns to Brazil’s antitrust regulator CADE.

Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard has only been approved by Saudi Arabia thus far.

The more news and the longer this takes, the more doubt I have the deal will through. My gut still says the odds are still in favor of it passing, but the chances it won't are definitely increasing substantially.

I think the deal will hardly go though but in the end very likely only bond to restrictions. If this happens then Sony will be more than satisfied.

And this proves one more thing: All this nightmares of Microsoft wildering in Japan other in general publishers, is just a fantasy of Microsoft fanboys. If this deal gets approved I doubt Microsoft will be able to buy any other publisher - no matter which country based in. Victory for all gamers.

When consolidation cheerleaders and corporate bootlickers read about this...

I meant to post earlier.... a few things came up in the podcast lastnight about this deal.

Google had a deal with Activision to provide servers exclusively for all their major games

of course that deal will be thrown out and MSFT will be the cloud provider, so there are many angles on this deal where it really is anti-competitive.

Dude, careful not to overdose on that copium. It'll get approved no doubt and will have little to no impact on further plans long term.

'Victory'? What the fuck are you smoking.

There is so much more to the deal than just the concerns of COD remaining multi platform, we are only seeing a very small part of it.
The bigger concern being there cloud services.

Approved in Brazil. Brazil is not the entire world…
As it is right now, Google changed their mind. Thank goodness for this one.
Lmao you can't just change your mind with something like this. They already submitted an official stance which negates an updated stance lol.

Of course you can. Google is unlike Sony not experienced in the gaming business. Sony is an old veteran, which have been for Ages active in gaming. So they could evaluate this as experienced company much easier than a Google, who have been only for short amount of time trying to compete in gaming industry.

There is no law which would support your theory: “of not changing your stance”. Google wasn’t aware of the consequences in long-term.

Hahaha, they submitted that like 2 months ago give me a break lol. It's not about laws, it's about damning evidence which completely contradicts any other point of view after the fact.

If 5 years had passed then sure, but this just happened lmao. Nothing burgers for days...

I really hope Sony and or Google are bringing this up to regulators. Microsoft was literally stalking googles partners and buying them out. Did Google announce it was closing stadia the same day Microsoft filed with eu? I feel like it was pretty close to one another and I wonder if that wasn’t a coincidence.

Pretty sure they would already know and have this sort of thing well covered, hence the investigation - with a deal this large they wont leave any stones unturned and MS will have a counter to it.

Deal will 100% go through but with major caveats.

And if those caveats are a no go for MS then they themselves may end the deal. But more than likely this will pass, I just think though MS buying another publisher will not pass 100% after this. ANd any large developer worth anything over a couple billion will be a no go.

I honestly think that if this passes without any IP caveats, then scrutiny wise Microsoft will be barred from purchases any other publisher or self publishing developer thats a specific size.
