Microsoft has reiterated its claim that it doesn’t have plans to make Call of Duty an Xbox exclusive should it successfully acquire Activision Blizzard.

In a document sent to Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) discussing the proposed acquisition, Microsoft claims that any concerns that Call of Duty would no longer appear on PlayStation are unfounded because it “would simply not be profitable” for Microsoft.”

Being arguably the biggest seller annualy, would even putting it on gamepass offset lost sales on Microsoft platforms in itself….?

I think it’s legit. Some behemoths push numbers on their own. Many titles on gamepass are neither here nor there, not big enough to sell gangbusters, yet too small to miss out on a secondary delivery channel. Back catalogue COD titles by all means.

Big guns go to the theatre first before they go to video. Sony 1st party as example.

I know theyve already committed to it but sony needs to hope at least one of their GAAS service games is a hit so they can decouple themselves from the dependency of COD. In the short term i think they need to:

-Polish the games they have in development as much as they can so it can be hit right out the gate, which is partially what Bungie is supposed to help with. With COD taking a year off next year that leaves sony an oppurtunity to fill that void on their platfrom with one of their games. Last of us factions will probably be their first big GAAS game and with no COD (I know warzone) for the holidays they can take their time to polish it and release it when its ready next year.

-Also acquire deviation games which seems to be racking up quite the talent pool based off of their hiring's. No idea what the game is but it has alot of former COD and apex legends developers, lock that up.

-Circle the wagons on key partners like square, capcom, fromsoft, take 2. I dont necessarily mean full on acquistions but perhaps stock purchases, long term exclusivity deals, absurdly long marketing contracts, like 20 years out for a franchise.

-Think outside the box, like for example if its possible, invest in the actual fifa football/soccer license. I dont mean the video game but the actual Fifa so that they can always have a marketing deal with whoever makes the games. Things like that.

-Sign marketing deals with as many multiplayer/GAAS games as possible. Cofund epics next game etc.

I personally don’t think they care about the profit from Playstation considering the amount of money they have And have spent.

They spent 80 billion on Activision…literally it would takes so long to recover that money. There not thinking profits, there thinking about taking over the industry. They can lose a couple billion a year until there plan comes to fruition, hence splashing so much money on gamepass, bethesda, Minecraft IP.
I doubt Gamepass is making much of a profit either, But they are banking on it to work out In the future

If it was that simple...
Remember they tried to do the same in the Mobile space and failed. They bought Nokia and failed.
It's not that simple or easy to do what you're implying they want to do.
And let's not forget, they've been trying this for the past 20 years or so.
Yeah, they spent 80bi, but don't kid yourself: If they don't see that ROI, they'll axe Xbox out.
And to see that ROI, they need Sony userbase revenue.

Poor @adamsapple, he was so adamant CoD would be exclusive.
It seems they know the franchise won't survive without that sweet, sweet sony userbase money.
That’s an awfully dramatic and disingenuous take. Calm down there warrior.

It wouldn’t make any sense for a juggernaut like COD or GTA online to cut out the PlayStation platform when you are getting that cut from sales and MTX either the numbers of units those franchises sell.

They would “survive”, but there is no point in shooting themselves in the foot like that.

You all should stop calling everyone warriors.
I'm saying what I think and if it doesn't please you, it's not my problem.
Everything I said are facts
  1. MS failed on the mobile space.
  2. MS needs to see the ROI for the $80bi investment.
  3. MS has been trying to overcome the competition for the past 20 years.
  4. MS needs sony userbase revenue to make up for the ROI on the xbox division
  5. It's not easy to to take over the industry
  6. They WILL ax Xbox if ultimately they're unable to become profitable
Now fuck off with this warrior shit.

It’s exactly what you are doing. It’s literally just as bad as when the Xbox guys do it.

That's kind of a funny statement...

"wouldn't be profitable"... "even if we do it" lol

It'll be years until they even have a chance to release a non-PS COD, fairly convenient for their argument as they aren't promising anything.

My main thought has always been it won't be codified (COD-ified?) into any sort of agreement that they won't be making COD exclusive. It'll be their choice as regulators aren't going to force them.

If they cared that much about profitability, they would've axed the whole xbox division a while ago. We'll have to wait and see what ultimately happens with CoD.
