Microsoft - it ‘simply wouldn’t be profitable’ to make Call of Duty Xbox exclusive

It’s exactly what you are doing. It’s literally just as bad as when the Xbox guys do it.
You still failed to provide any counter point. Do you have anything else to add or are just keep going with this?

I believe they couldn't do a main line CoD exclusive even if they wanted before 2025... so we will have to wait at least 3 years to know for fact what will happen with the franchise.

I believe there's no point in making CoD exclusive and they know this.
And tbh, Xbox is the only MS business that has exclusives, it's the outlier.
MS software is available on Windows, Mac OS, Android and iOS. Why is Xbox the outlier here?

Because that software is used by businesses, and MS doesn't have a successful 30% cut store device in the Windows ecosystem.

Why is totally different segment treated differently is just a bit of an odd question.

And in the end for things like Office MS moved to largely a subscription model anyways. That's where xCloud/Gamepass comes in to try to replicate.. but they still have plenty reason to protect their ecosystem.

Depend of the software.

MS Office today yes (before it was Windows exclusive) but even so not all apps are available in Mac OS, Android or iOS... the full set of MS Office.
That happened more due the needs of business companies that have employees working on Windows and Mac and so needed compatible tools that worked in both... and to be fair in big companies to use alternative Offices to open .xls is bad... really bad... it is traumatic bad.

Said that not all MS software is available outside Windows... the Server Apps like SQL Server, Power BI, Hyper-V, etc... all MS Server apps only runs on Windows.
It is pretty clear the big business from MS is Server and not final consumers... and there they make everybody go Windows to use their tools.

MS Enterprise Server business is where they $$$$$$.

And that makes sense… for example MS Visual Studio can be used in Windows or Mac… the developer choose where to develop but when you need a server to publish what you developer you need to setup a Windows Server.

If it was that simple...
Remember they tried to do the same in the Mobile space and failed. They bought Nokia and failed.
It's not that simple or easy to do what you're implying they want to do.
And let's not forget, they've been trying this for the past 20 years or so.
Yeah, they spent 80bi, but don't kid yourself: If they don't see that ROI, they'll axe Xbox out.
And to see that ROI, they need Sony userbase revenue.

I agree, I don’t think its easy to do either or possible. But I think thats there plan.
I don’t think they will axe them, as much as that would be interesting and probably better for gaming

I'm sticking with the prediction I made back in January. COD will be fully exclusive to Xbox/PC/Cloud once contracts are legally completed. Of course, until the contracts are legally completed, no one will know.

P.S. - I don't care what Microsoft is saying now. They will say whatever they need to in order for the acquisition to go through.

That's not how this works.

It will work however Microsoft wants it to work and they're all in on Game Pass and Xbox. Keeping COD on PlayStation does NOTHING for either so why do that? Money? They're a $2T dollar company. They don't need the money that they would make on PlayStation and making COD exclusive to Xbox would get the vast majority of those who play COD on PlayStation to jump to Xbox.

It's the consistently highest selling franchise there is, many people buy a console just to play Call of Duty. If they decided to cut that off from PlayStation at some point people are going to go where their game is.

I’ll bet you good money people do not move en masse to Xbox for CoD. You greatly overestimate peoples allegiance to these things.

Exactly. Microsoft can't gain new consumers or returning consumers by keeping COD on PlayStation.

PS4/PS5 will get MW 2 and Warzone 2. Warzone 2 will be supported for years like The Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 76 have been but the next new COD release that is after all the contracts have been completed will be exclusive.

Those who play COD on PS4/PS5 will easily jump to Xbox especially those who only play COD and maybe one or two other games a year every year. It won't be everyone but even getting 50% of those who play on PlayStation would be massive for Xbox and potentially Game Pass.

50%? Lol it’s not going to happen. I’ll bet you too.

Not to mention CoD is in decline. People will just move on if it gets yanked.

Make your bet. :)

COD declined because of Vanguard and Warzone is about to be replaced by Warzone 2. Once COD MW 2 and Warzone 2 release, it will be as if the decline never happened.

IMO I believe we will already see a decline in PS players in CoD with the MS acquisition.

I agree with you on the sentiment that it wouldn't be 50% or all that close to that.

But the sequel to their best selling COD is coming out this year as well as Warzone 2. COD has had lots of fluctuations in sales year to year so personally gonna wait until the end of this year to truly believe it's in decline.

A very tough last year for them obviously though.

You actually would bet a decent amount of cash that Xbox is going to become dominant after the CoD deal? Come on you can’t be that foolish!

Think about this. If Activision had a positive outlook on its future why would it be so eager to liquidate itself? They are going nowhere and they know it.

Well yeah, they will already jump ship because why wait to see what happens when you know that no matter what Microsoft decides to do, COD will be on Xbox and Game Pass day one.

I didn't say that Xbox would become dominant. I said that they would get at least 50% of those who play on PS4/PS5 to jump to Xbox which I do believe because majority are still playing on PS4. These people will wait it out and see what happens. If they see COD is exclusive to Xbox and all they really play is COD, why would they buy a PS5 when for them it would be of no use since the game they play religiously isn't on the platform?

Activision only sold because of all the sexual shit, Kotick shit and whatnot. If none of that stuff ever became public, we wouldn't be having this conversation because they would still be as is.
