I thought it was know already but it become news in outlets due being the most close MS talked about sales of Xbox in the last decade.

In the docs MS said to CADE Brasil:

“Sony superou a Microsoft em termos de vendas de consoles e base instalada, tendo vendido mais do que o dobro do Xbox na última geração.”

In a free translation it should be: “Sony surpassed Microsoft in consoles sales and install base, having sold more than double the Xbox last generation”.

That means Xbox One sold less than 58 million units based in the public 117 million from PS4.

the thing that makes me sad about the PS4 is that its legs were cut off early due to these chip shortages.
The cheapest you can get a PS4 on amazon is $485 which is more than a digital PS5 and almost the same as a regular PS5

There is still a market of people who would still buy a PS4 for the cheap games before investing in a next gen machine and the PS4 could be at 130 million by now.

I really doubt beofre covid sony was planning on stopping PS4 production shortly after PS5's launch.
PS1 lasted from 1994 - 2006
PS2 2000 - 2013
PS3 2006 - 2017
PSP 2004 - 2014
PS Vita 2011 - 2019

PS4 was Sony's biggest financial success and I imagine it was at least going to last until 2023 if not til 2025 before they ceased production completely

Ps4 could have easily done 130m if they gave it a price cut or even a slim model. I just think sony didn’t really care and i wanted to transition people to the ps5 asap

even without a price cut it would probably be there. I haven't seen a PS4 in a store or brand new on amazon since like April 2020, chip shortages really stopped the PS4

PS2 and PS3 lasted way more years because the successors didn’t have BC with previous machines.

What made Sony change plans was the scarcity of PS5.

It had for less than a year a believe… it was removed pretty fast.

Only original fat 20GB and 60GB PS3 have HW BC and software BC ended in 2007.
So 2008 forward there is no BC of any type.

My 2008 MGS4 had PS3 BC. They removed the actual hardware ship in the original 2006 PS3 and went with an emulation solution instead in newer models but BC wouldn't be dropped completely until the PS3 slim in September 2009

In that article you linked me it said Sony confirmed it planned on continuing PS4 production in 2022 but Sony also said: "However, it suggested that it had no plans to discontinue the console by the end of 2021"

Late 2007 models didn’t have any type of BC.
MGS4 bundle was made by left units of an old 2007 model (CECHExx August 2007) that is why it has SW BC.

You can see with CECHGxx launched in October 2007 PS3 lose any type of BC.

You could find PS3 with BC even today if you take sometime to find one

After end of 2007 Sony was not producing PS3 with BC anymore.

Based. As someone that owned both, Xbone had no (good) exclusive games. Bloodborne was better than every exclusive that came on xbone. Forza Horizon really came into it's own though.
