I see nothing wrong with the thread. An opinion is an opinion. There is discussion around it as it is.

MS spent about 100 Billion dollars JUST to be on par with PlayStation's output.
MS should definitely spent more money...not in studios or publishers but in people that actually know how to do management and producing.
I mean. Sure. I guess PlayStation management alone can make those studios more productive.
So ok. PlayStation has been/is definitively in talks with publishers (Square Enix is what is rumored). The point is: If Sony HAS to buy a publisher (for whatever reason) they will find a way.
If I have to bet it will be between Square Enix or Capcom.
But yeah, the smarter (slower-cheaper.) Move, is going to be always buying individual studios and make them growth.
EDIT: Sony is not as desperate as MS in this regard. They have a waaaay better First Party infrastructure/culture/netwotk system. BUT they can't chill either.

This will never happen. Stop believing fake rumors and deal with reality. Sony will acquire a few more no-name studios for more Live-Service games. Almost all of them will flop and Sony will realize that it's time for them to go 3rd party. They can't compete long-term.

Microsoft pretty much owns two genres. Sony owns the "let's remake a PS4 remaster and sell it for $70" genre.
They just can't compete anymore.
With buying a handful of no-name studios for Live-Service games? While MS will pretty much buy another publisher after the Activision-Deal is closed?

As I said many times now. I made a couple of charts that cover a span of 4 years each.
Conclusion:
Both PlayStation and Xbox (counting with their acquisitions) are basically putting the same amount of content. So. ' Sony can't compete, sony is poor'. Is a stupid, moronic and ignorant narrative/argument.
About the RPGs/FPS.
One example: Horizon Zero Dawn.
Sony had a studio that made an Exlcusive FPS to compete with Halo.....the fact that Sony green lit Horizon just puts in perspective:
a) Halo irrelevance.
b) FPS crowded space.
Now, if Sony needs to make a FPS they will do it. (Now thy have Bungie/Destiny...a FPS with RPG elements...lol)
Second. If MS has the WRPG genre....why people keep crying about Final Fantasy?. Edit: This is literally the definition of being competitive.

Microsoft owns FPS with what? Halo Infinite was supposed to last 10 years and it's already dead. You apparently can't even launch some game modes because nobody plays it anymore. Give me a break.
Xbox is still 3rd and last place like it has always been. Gamepass was supposed to change things and look how nobody cared even when they gave it away left and right with $1/month promo. Gamepass is so successful they don't even give numbers. All we know is it missed latest MS target. While basically being free. Achievement unlocked, I guess.
Thanks for the entertaining thread but really, your console sucks compared to the competition. It definitely needs a stream of great games other than Halo and Forza. We'll see if it finally gets them.
What they should have done is emulate Sony from day one and try to build great exclusives. Build the brand. But all they did was going full circle with Halo / Gears / Forza / Kinect and so the brand is still weak today, especially outside of the US... Nobody cares because they haven't made enough great AAA exclusives, it's not rocket science actually... It's all about the games. Quality AAA games, not gamepass filler.

And where does come that assumption up of yours? There is nothing what would indicate to another buyout by MS. The FTC is this time really persistent with checking Microsoft and in the beginning it wasn’t for a long time guaranteed, that the acquisition will go through.
So what makes you think another acquisition will be no problem? That’s not how regulatory works and you don’t seem to understand how economics works in general. Japanese publishers you can count out, this will never sell to MS. So remain only publishers from the west. Microsoft will clearly not be able to buy another huge publisher. They will never get this approved!
Remaster =/= Remake. And it will make more profit than any MS IP has in the last 24 months.
