They now call Xbox to their multiplatform ecosystem, the different places where you can play their games either natively or via streaming.
That doesnt turn the device itself in an Xbox. Or does MS instantly own the rights to its design and structure?

Nope.

Its a stupid marketing effort even a toddler would wipe off the table.
Xbox = dead

Nice job Phil!

Xbox is just such a weird name, that never even achieved mass recognition!

Like subjectivly everyone (including non-gamers) knows what a PlayStation or a "Nintendo" is.

But what even is an Xbox?
A Pay-TV Box for Adult Content?
They put so much effort in catering to the lowest common denominator out there, that even those don't give a damn about them!

Xbox is, at the very best, the platform where you rent some mediocre games for pity pennies, and never give a damn afterwards.

Are you willing to pay for that, though?
Absolutely, I am more than willing to pay for a platform that follows a subsidized hardware business model and offers competitive hardware with decent 3rd party support.

And IMO there will be an opportunity for a clean slate in established games library when we inevitably move from screens to XR devices.

If people wanted to support competition to Sony, Xbox/Gamepass is obviously there, but nobody wants to pay for it!
Most Xbox Customers are just cheapskates, driving on cheap subs (often bought with Conversions, VPN-Tricks, keys, trials etc.).

Microsoft failed to compete through utter incompetence at running their own studios, and then by devaluing their exclusive offers through cheap and nearly given away subscription prices as an attempt to compensate for said utter incompetence.

Truth is Microsoft is such a big, fat and slow corporation that failing upwards is a real possibility, and that's how Phil Spencer somehow still has a job.

If there was a new Platform, i bet you that nobody would want to spend their money on it, since it couldn't compete anyway.
I don't think this is true. There is a high cost of entry, but that's not such a big problem for >$500B companies.

The problem with Amazon Luna and Google Stadia is they just bet on the wrong horse of hardware platform. Streaming just isn't ready for prime time, nor will it be within the next decade IMO. Meta OTOH might be on a winning path.

I assume MS now calls Xbox to the multiplatform digital ecosystem where the Xbox games run (using a multiplatform Xbox user account, tracking achievements etc) either natively or via cloud, not the hardware of the device.

I think their console hardware sales will continue decreasing and will eventually die, but with their multiplatform approach their gaming division will make way more revenue and profit than ever before once their consoles die considering they'll save a lot of money from millions of consoles being sold at a loss, tons of money spent on 3rd party exclusives and GP deals, tons of money they didn't earn before because they were limited to only their console and now will be in a way bigger market etc.

I mean, i get their initial Strategy!

They hoped to become the cheap mass appealing offering, with enough market dominance (100+ Million Subscribers!), to pull anyone into looking for having their game on Gamepass!

Now they are stuck with an audience that barely even wants to pay for their offerings, yet have it all!

They don't even have a choice than suck it up, since pulling out would fully destroy their remaining reputation, and make nobody ever buy anything Xbox branded anymore!

If a providers only significant offering revolves around "Play Games for cheap", than this is what they become.

Yes, Game-Streaming is far away from mass-appeal, and will be for a long time.

No disagreement there.
