People like to use this research as evidence of PC grow but when it shows a different narrative everybody forget it exists.

There is a lot more including a new "nostalgia" facto which big live service games are abusing.

Article but they don't say anything... you need to look at the PDF.

Hopefully Sony gets the memo and stops sabotaging themselves.
Some of you have been saying they've been sabotaging themselves for 4 years. So when do we get to see the results of the self sabotage? Because each time we get new data, it shows the opposite.

Right? And I think the growth won't stop here as the good stuff is coming in the next 1-3 years indeed! 👀

Yeah, I agree Sony should continue to port games on PC and Switch 2 because the data shows the opposite of self sabotaging.

The report shows that PC revenues are not only growing year over year, but are also forecasted to grow in the years to come. It also suggests that Steam gamers are more likely to play new games than console owners, provided the gamer in question plays more than 1~3 games per year.

I'm not sure why that would signal against porting.

It's interesting that xbox, despite having access to gamepass, the median player plays the same number of games as the playstation player.

Because they spend more time on social sites simping for Phil daddy and co. while trying to bash PlayStation, along with the PC cucks.
I think it's more because their one selling point (day one xbox games) isn't actually appealing to their userbase or to anyone except a few twitter bros, and PS+ is virtually an identical value proposition.

Regarding consoles:
  • -3.9% vs previous year, while PC keeps flat (+0.1%)
  • Without subs, consoles is $36.95B (vs PC $37.3B)
  • Subscriptions keep growing their percentage, now 16% of console revenue is from subs (was 9-10% a few years ago)
  • Subscriptions had the biggest % growth, when traditionally MTX had the biggest growth
  • Like in PC, premium keeps decreasing in %, while DLC+MTX keep growing (meaning GaaS keep getting more popular)

A third of PS playtime during 2024 was spent on CoD+Fortnite+Roblox:

9-12 GaaS get around 50% of the playtime of each platform:

88% of PC+Console playtime during 2024 was spent in games from previous years (pretty likely GaaS eat most playtime):

Interesting since PC has sub services as well, if it's not even worth noting as a percentage of revenue I guess PC gamepass isn't doing anything worthwhile after all

PlayStation playtime focused in 'full' priced AAAs, while in PC is more balanced and focused on <=$30 titles (indies and F2P):

Yes, despite GP, PS+ Premium, EA Play and others being also available on PC, Newzoo counts them as console stuff.

It's something I never understood why they do it, specially when PC even has PC specific subs like Amazon Luna, Prime Gaming or GeForce Now.

I assume it's because it represents a very small percent of the total PC revenue, and that most of these subs have most of their subbers on console, but I always thought that isn't fair to put it all in console and to don't put anything on PC. I think they should put on each platform the percent of each platform.

Who kwnows. Maybe when they started to track it there were only the console ones and kept it in this way ignoring the PC ones since then. But it would be weird. I don't know, maybe it's because they only have access to the console subs data.

From all the data points aggregated in this report, my takeaway, like yours, was largely that GAAS/MTX are basically the growth market at this point. I.E. Even more evidence to suggest that these monetization strategies are going to become more pervasive.
