Nintendo Q2 FY25: 2.62m Switch, Forecast revised down

Third in revenue, with an almost 8-year old system, against a platform that spent $80+ billion to finally beat them in revenue while still dropping in profits (Xbox), and another platform that's missed its own sales forecasts despite only being 4 years old (PlayStation 5).

With both said platforms apparently needing to pursue a multiplatform strategy to hopefully increase profit margins to be comparable to Nintendo's in a soft year.

The people who gloat about Switch are annoying, no doubt. But Nintendo's never been deeply interested in the revenue game, so it's silly to use that as a measuring stick against them now.

It's also silly as people keep saying how "Nintendo is no competition", so why should they make any comparison at all.

Nintendo better hope the switch 2 is as big as the switch1 because they are alrdy 3rd in revenue and ppl really exaggerate their garbage software sales.
Revenue is a joke metric for success. If I sell you a million dollars for 999,999 dollars the fact that I had 999,999 dollars in "revenue" means nothing. But then you also dismiss software sales despite them having something like 15 to 20 titles over the 10 million mark despite never dropping their price below 40 dollars.

Switch Sports might well have had more sales in units this update than Concord did sales in dollars but Icon-Era Nintendo is "in trouble" and "irrelevant."

I think it's because deep down, they know Nintendo (and Steam) ARE competition, and they're more formidable as indirect competitors than Xbox has been as a direct competitor for the past 5-7 years, especially more recently.

So they're in a weird space where they'll use Nintendo & PC to shit on Xbox when needed, but get upset seeing those same platforms grow & secure themselves while PlayStation (as a console) seems mostly stagnant in market growth and slowly making a lot of the same mistakes (again, for the best interests of the console) Microsoft did in their multiplatform strategy.

Just give me Switch 2 already damn it!!

Probably still 4-5 months away from releasing at earliest.

I'm still holding out hope for a Nintendo Direct in January and release in March. Probably won't happen but we'll see.
History doesn't necessarily mean that they will follow history. However, the Switch was announced in October, and came out 6 months later in March. That is where I came up with my guesstimate.

Nintendo basically gave up on the Wii U and didn't care about cannibalizing its non-existent Christmas sales. Switch is clearly different and will likely get at least three years of additional support. They aren't announcing Switch 2 until early January at the earliest.

I still remember in GAF when I told guys that there is no hardware evolution for a Switch Pro or Switch 2 4 years ago and that I didn't expect anything before 2023.

Turned out that the lack of hardware evolution for a sucessor is even stronger…

I wonder if Switch 2 will even launch in 2025.

Backwards Compatibility being officially confirmed is great and if Switch 2 can upscale those games to higher resolution, effects, foliage and most importantly, running at 60FPS consistently will be great news. Give me this and bring back Virtual Console that was on Wii and I will be very happy.

Good point. If switch 2 upscales switch 1 games then it becomes a new console and switch pro in one.

Thanks and agreed. I'm not a huge Nintendo guy but I have a few Switch games that I want to buy and play but decided to wait for Switch 2. If they all get upgraded, I will be very happy. :)
