Why devs would actually said this a month ago??

  • On which platforms can I play Black Myth: Wukong?
PC and PS5 users can enjoy the full game starting August 20, 2024. We are currently optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version to meet our quality standards, so it won't release simultaneously with the other platforms. We apologize for the delay and aim to minimize the wait for Xbox users. We will announce the release date as soon as it meets our quality standards.

Their source isn't the same guy, they have their own source.
Suddenly the story got a bit more exciting, interested in seeing how this develops and if more Journalists/outlets jump in the action.
Are you sure? Looks like the same guy talked to Paul and IGN 🤷‍♂️

I mean they just mixed the words lol

Paul: source with knowledge
IGN: knowledgeable source

It is so obvious... even using the same words.

Between this, the bungie news, and the random SE quote about doubling down on xbox; im starting to feel like this another coordinated smear campaign by Phil and crew to make up for the horrid week they had last week.

Well then why don't we start asking SIE to grow some balls and speak up for themselves against it? They had no problem doing that in the past, they had no problem owing up to making deals to bolster their console competitively.

Again it should never be down to us white knight for these corporations. Having said that, Tassi is a sus reporter and both he & IGN are too scared to name their sources or provide any shred of proof of the contract in question, even a snippet of it.

They should rightfully be challenged on their claims until they provide the proof.

IGN said they used their own source actually. But why didn't they tell us who it is!

I hope this isn't a serious question.

What’s the problem? Sony believed it in and won big.

It's not really a problem, but it's def something that should be reported on, it's very much industry related and the product in question is selling a gazillion copies. If people get upset at news, it's their own fault.

Are you sure? Looks like the same guy talked to Paul and IGN 🤷‍♂️

When a newspaper/website says they "corroborates" another outlet it's implied they are using their own source.
It's very standard English language journalism stuff.

They even went further and say they had a "knowledgeable source" they talked to.
So yeah, they're saying they have their own source.

BTW what is difference between "source with knowledge" and "knowledgeable source"?

Like the majority of the time IGN will land up with an egg on its face, We have the pile of McCuckery And Dustbin's articles to go by.

99% Sony has no exclusivity and if they got it then maybe they got it very late like in June or July. Maybe they offered a physical publishing deal

Stealth exclusive deal honestly sounds like the right move these days. Games get dragged for it (unless your Nintendo).

That said I don’t believe it’s true, the devs specifically stated why it’s not coming to Xbox already.

True, but it would actually be very very poor journalism not to reach out to Paul.
You really don't want to be seen writing "we corroborate this story with our own source" without making sure.

Considering these articles both went up a couple of hours from each other, I would be quite confident in saying that Kat Bailey did reach out to Paul Tassi, either after the story was published or possibly even before. Those stories both game out within hours of each other, so it's not unlikely.

BTW what is difference between "source with knowledge" and "knowledgeable source"?

None, it just depends on how somebody might construct their phrase.
As for what it means when an outlet say this... It means they have verified that the person is somebody who would have access to this information.

Bro you are giving too much credit to these people, If they were good journalists they wont be stuck doing games journalism. The bottom feeders of journalism inhabit gaming news.

May i ask you, are you really trust Paul Tassi and IGN rather than a devs who gave an official statement about Xbox version??

While this may be true, Kat Bailey isn't a nobody.

Kat Bailey is a journalist with close to 15 years of experience in the games media. She previously served as Editor in Chief of USgamer, and her work has appeared in the Washington Post, Vice, Polygon, and Rock Paper Shotgun among dozens of other publications. In addition to her duties as News Director at IGN

Like any random journalist at an outlet is whatever.
But this person would know a thing or two about how sourcing and doing proper legwork, yes, even in gaming journalism.
Good journalistic practices isn't rocket science.

When it comes to saying that a giant publisher like Sony has a secret deal in place with a studio, you can be sure that outlets like IGN and Forbes really don't want to be caught saying things that are untrue(as they perceive them to be).
Especially, if as you say, there is already a few statements and data points from the developer potentially indicating otherwise.

There is no "secret deal". Sony is always advertising games on their blog if there is any marketing deal with specific games. WHY hiding a Wukong PS5 videos just 2 day before release. It doesn't make any sense. As there is an official devs statement about Xbox version.

IGN and Forbes really don't want to be caught saying things that are untrue

Are you sure about that?

Flipflop Tassi.

And also, as a reminder, IGN reported something Wukong related back in June ( something Jez Corden related) and deleted it later

Yes, especially when it comes to IGN.
They certainly don't want getting sued/publically called out/ unning the risk of losing privilieged access to SIE published games(previews/review copies, etc...) because of a story.

Heck, even true articles sometime get blacklisted by publishers.
You can be sure that IGN didn't just press "send" for a story like this. There's a real risk to themselves here.

So, Ryan McCaffrey is an IGN employee and he is doing many wrong things for IGN oftenly
