The new rules also apply to ungrounded legal, physical threats, and other forms of intimidation to suppress negative customer reviews.

The Federal Trade Commission today announced a final rule

Regardless of where you stand on any given game, I'm sure we've all been frustrated to observe review manipulation by bad actors. Either by bots inflating or bombing games upon release, or by companies removing reviews they felt were too negative.

New FTC legislation will comprehensively prohibit the following:

• Fake or false customer reviews and testimonials, including those from celebrities
• The buying of positive and negative reviews
• Insider reviews
• Company-controlled review sites
• Review suppression
• The misuse of fake social media indicators
• AI generated fake reviews

Seems like a positive step towards making reviews for games, and products in general, a more reliable reference for quality.
