Sony owning bungie, microsoft owning crash bandicoot

Game Master Reaction GIF by Hyper RPG
Sony never owned Crash and who knows if MS will ever do anything with him.

Xbox biggest studio somehow managing to become indenpented, creating an FPS IP that it way more successful than Halo is these days and then being acquired by PlayStation is a lot crazier.

I'd never pick an IP over a skilled studio.
Now I know I'm not talking to Phil Spencer.

What did he value most when acquiring Activision Blizzard and Bethesda? IPs, he is making the same mistake again.

Looking at all the recent Sony acquisition only Bungie had a valuable IP (but even then, during the announcement they were already talking about new IP), all the other studios they acquired had no valuable IPs.

Competent studios with no valuable IP to inflate their price are the best acquisition targets out there.

Watch them announce a new acquisition next week. They cleaned the slate with the Haven and Bungie deals closing this week so they could make a bit of noise next week.

I did find it weird how both deals closing happened in the same week.

Who would you rather have, Crash or Naughty Dog? Bungie or Halo? Never pick IPs over devs.

Theres no IP thats worth more than a talented studio. Spider-man was meandering for years under activision, it thrived under insomniac. Insomniac under sony could be given anything and it would be a good game. Not every can make a really good spider-man game

Maybe not next week but I could see in the fall.

I think it will either be Deviation or Ember Lab next. feel like they’ve been sitting on those for a while

Well, I seriously think Sony doesn't give a fuck about MS acquisitions.
Sony absolutely cares. They arent going to set idle and let microsoft consolidate the industry. Any executive with that passive attitude would be a moron and voted out instantly. You have to realise how buisness works in the real world. Sony needs to protect their interests. The Playstation brand is vital to their success and now that that brand is being threatened of course Sony willl take action and start buying as much as they can to ensure the future for Playstation. Sony wouldn't have upped their 18billion aquistion budget to 30billion if they werent taking things seriously and planning to make their own moves.

Gaming is a different landscape where you can't afford to sit idle. Things change. The past doesn't matter. One minute Call of Duty is the home of Playstation (which gave Playstation the lead back in America for the PS4 era) and the next minute microsoft buys out the publisher. It was a very volatile aggressive move, and it opened up Sony's eyes to very real threats

It doesn't really matter what you or I say. Because Jim Ryan has already made it clear. "Expect larger aquistions." And theyve increased their budgets across the board in accord with that promise - words backed by action. It's going to happen

I'm telling you right now. Sony will aquire Sqaure Enix and is in the talks with Capcom

It's the right move, and the wise moves to make

It isn't even about "competing directly" with microsoft's aquistions

its about Sony strengthening Playstation, buying defensively and ensuring that Playstation continues on as they have been

not really much to get excited about with this one judging from the nature of the deal. hopefully it was all just PR speak and they actually give some tangible benefit to sony and their customers for investing 3.6B in them.

I'm talking exclusive games and experiences obviously. you don't pay 3.6B for some consulting on unannounced live service projects. what we've heard so far is absurd.
I expect Destiny and expansions will remain on Xbox and Switch. Their next title if its a new IP will be PS5 and PC. They will leave the door open to other console ports in a few years

They’re not making exclusive games, yall gotta think beyond just consoles or individual games. Sony want the live service expertise and they want the additional revenue streams.

Sony have 12 games of service coming out from good studios they don’t really need another exclusive shooter

You only need PS and PC for a successful live service.

They are tied in where they've already launched that service on other systems but in future they will assess game by game

Bungie are just going to do what they want. If they want to release on more consoles they are going to. I don’t see them being any different than Mojang

Nah. Beyond Destiny 2 the ball game changes IMO

They needed to be clear the acquisition won't affect existing player bases. But with their future IP there is no need for them to release on Xbox

By your logic they could release an Xbox exclusive if they can do whatever they want

It could go either way. I think how MS acts with Activision will be a factor too

I find it crazy that in 2022, The 20 year anniversary of Microsoft buying Rareware (A huge Nintendo Supporter in the SNES and N64 days), Sony decides to buy Bungie, the studio that made Halo and supported Xbox for over a decade! Who is gonna buy who in 2042?

I want Deviation and Ember Labs next. Smaller acquisitions, but lots of potential. Even if you don't grow those studios significantly, you get 3-4 additional games per generation.
