Latest YoY quarterly console sales are showing a very sharp decline that we didn't see in the PS4 era.

Traditionally, at the 4 year mark the consoles would have been much cheaper than they were at release, bringing in a second wave of buyers.
The PS5 is apparently not getting that second wave, ever.
Nah, like any other console in gaming history, after having passed its hardware sales peak year (last year for PS5) it declines. PS5 is performing almost like the PS4 even if PS5 had the shortages issues and couldn't price cut the console as PS4 already did at this point, but instead had to increase its price.

In fact, PS5 is outselling PS4 launch aligned in several of the top countries, it's some EU countries where PS5 is performing worse than PS4 launch aligned, which makes PS5 to be launch aligned abit behind PS4 worldwide.

Launch aligned PS5 is one of the most successful consoles ever in gaming history even in sales units, its weakest metric:

(in most of the other key metrics PS5 is the best performing ever)

Regarding the peak year, as can be seen in the graph it normally ranges somewhere between the 2nd and 5th fiscal year depending on the console (this graph covers until the end of each FY, so it's updated until March 2024, since PS5 had the peak last year the following quarters until it gets discontinued should be normally declining YoY, as happened almost always for all consoles in gaming history.

its kind of unfair to see people "backlash" over the decision. but it was bound to happen for a big elephant in the room. when insomniac got hacked and the leaks were provided. unofficial ports of sm2 became a thing for months. albeit not perfect so what better option than to do it now? and honestly i'd rather see insomniac move on to something else than just being a spiderman studio lol i'm sure they themselves dont wanna lose that steam off the franchise but they also need space on something else. thats the biggest reason the port happened fast. you can find gameplay on yt as well.

They're losing sales to the PS4. 50% still haven't upgraded. That isn't good.
Not to mention Nintendo will play a bigger role in 3rd party support & Nintendo is double downing on there hardware, storefront & ip by increasing output from each of there notable franchise & properly expanding ip w cross media, toys/merchandise, parks, irl Nintendo stores & other collaborations unlike PS.

If PS was properly expanding there ip to reach a new/wide audience we’d have the Horizon park, the Demon Souls castle featuring the Dragon god, Bloodborne Yarnem, Loco Roco, Ape Escape & Gran Turismo park. We’d see anime, movies & tv shows at a larger scale releasing a minimum of 2 per year PS production. Expand PS ip to toys/merchandise (something PS heavily lacks) etc we would see PS double down on PS studios output seeing Ratchet & Clank annualized like Nintendo has done w Mario & how Sega done w Sonic, PS would apply this method to Jak & Daxter, Ape Escape, Sly Cooper etc franchises that can be easily budget/scope & annualized for easy output & profits. We would see AA more universal games from staple PS franchise such as GOW, TLOU, Horizon, Uncharted. The fact Uncharted is almost going 10 years since the last game is a complete failure & poor management from Sony/PS & Naughty Dog a franchise that sold 15+ million & reviewed in the 90+ & who’s movie brought more profits (2x-3x in profits to what the budget the uncharted movie had) then what Disney own Indiana Jones did which flop. Sony could easily grab that entire market away from Disney & even make it hard for Tomb Raider but they haven’t double down. We should be seeing a Uncharted anime & Uncharted TV show after the success of the movie & other PS production projects.
