Sony have chosen these short term marketing cycles because their devs decide marketing now. The trade off is we get shit State of Plays and Showcases now and blind if there is anything exciting on the horizon

Nobody was complaining about being excited for a showcase before

They could have shown Astrobot, Lego Horizon, Physint, Death Stranding 2 and the gameplay reveal of Concord in the showcase last year and it would have been well received but they didn't. They announce games 3-4 months before release now and there's always backlash.

I find it hard to criticize Playstation at the same time when my PS5 has been putting in a considerable amount of hours played. I would rather have good games at hand than bragging rights for whose show was the greatest.

Years ago PS got a lot of flak for announcing games too early. I guess a middle ground would be fine.

However, their showcase tend to happen on September.

I don't need games announced 3 years out but they can announce a game a year out. There is absolutely no reason we do not know what's coming next year outside of Death Stranding and Wolverine.. games announced 2 years ago, by the way lol.

That article sound like many threads in this forum, complaining about Sony having no games while there are different recent Sony games in the top selling/most played lists and having a lot of great PS5 games announced to be coming for the next year or so.

Too much time has passed with these Sony shitty shows, it's clearly on purpose and they just don't see any value in it.

It makes no sense to me but it is what it is. Any other company would see these interest and passion people have for their platform as something valuable, they don't, to them it's just a nuisance and something that gets in the way of them just doing whatever they want whenever they want without having to deal with any expectations.

Up to the PS4 Sony clearly had a unique vision for games as a form of entertainment for adults that had genuine value, now they see it as a way to milk people with low self control for safe recurrent returns without having to invest or risk much.

They don't put any culture in their products anymore, they've become just like MS. That is how abominations like Concord and Fairgame$ are created.

It should be important to them, in fact they attempt to quantify it. Every quarterly financial report they have a line item that says something along the lines of "goodwill" as an asset. That measures their brand strength and customer loyalty. God knows how they calculate that line item but they seem to be okay with burning that asset for short term profits.

This gen has been far worse Sony has kept us in the dark about games like Factions just to announce it and then canceled jt one year later without ever showing gameplay.

Nobody is complaining that they showed Wolverine and SM2 in advance.

They need to announce all that they are working on and give game a chance to capture an audience before they decide to cancel them. Sony has been stupid and is taking PlayStation fans for granted, it's insulting.

Sony also allows Xbox breathing room, since Sony inaction lets Xbox pretend they have more going on in comparison than they actually do. If Xbox ever finds itself in a competitive position again it will all be thanks to Sony not burying them when they had the chance.
