Just imagine…

PS5 Pro being held in over 95% of games because Series S exists.

That is how great MS did for the players this gen 🤷‍♂️
The Pro would have never been about pushing any boundaries on a design level through the power of the latest technology.

The point of mid-gen refreshes is to maintain or offer higher quality visual and performance standards that have ceased to be met by the base consoles: Final Fantasy XVI runs between 1080-1440p in its quality mode, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 runs at 1726p in quality mode, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor also fails to deliver a native 2160p image... the PS5 Pro's duty is to ensure a native 4K resolution, with raytracing features if available and at up to 60fps, across all of these scenarios.

But how would this hurt Sony? It wouldn't? Every 3rd party game will be cross gen so it's not like Playstation gamers will be missing out? The base would be too big to ignore and I find it hard to see Microsoft cutting off the Xbox Series Install base and just making any game full next gen lol.

If anything it benefits Sony more to see what the competition even doing.

Not saying it would. But MS has tried going head to head twice now and it hasnt worked at all. So maybe them doing there own thing or trying the 360 strategy might be better With an Elder Scrolls 6 launch boost.

Basically they’d get a year of sales before PS6 is released. Again, Im not saying it would work, but neither would releasing at the same time as PS6.

Or they could wait a couple years after PS6 And release something much stronger.

I cant wait to see the game they got lined up to market this thing with.
I'm thinking Death Stranding 2 (which we've known for a while that it is scheduled for next year) will be the flagship first-party exclusive. There's also going to be Marathon from Bungie, which I'm suspecting will launch F2P in the fall of next year (the studio wanted to have another active IP on the market before 2025 for a while now).

On the third-party side of things, there's Assassin's Creed Red (Feudal Japan) launching next fall, as well as rumors of a new Resident Evil 1 remake. Regarding Take-Two, I don't think the next Grand Theft Auto will be ready in time, but perhaps the new BioShock could take that spot. And finally, there's also the new game from Fumito Ueda, which could and should be announced imminently at some upcoming videogame event and come out next year, maybe.

So probably they will drop the Series S maybe, there maybe protest but well, people sign up for this.

The Pro can bring a lot of benefits.

• PS has a huge platform advantage, will probably be 70% at this point. Just 30% of those are the Pro will probably equal the amount of stupid little brothers on the other side. So more devs see the demand of parity on green team, decides to drop all green rats behind at launch.
• PS5 Pro will have the power advantage far greater this gen, all the promotional images will on the Pro.
• Give devs more headroom to execute their features that can only be on PC. Also may convince some PC players to buy or even switch to PS5 Pro.
• Backward compatibility with PS6 will be better.

IMO PS5 Pro will be worst upgrade than PS4 Pro that already was a bad choice.

I played all games on PS4 with the base model.

Mid-gen refresh exists only to make some users to buy two hardware in the same generation increasing revenue in the middle of
The gen.

You are better served buying 6-7 games than a mid-gen refresh imo.

Series S won’t go anywhere sadly.

Developers will have to push even more unfinished games now they had to work not only in 2 presets for consoles but 3 with Series S being the base.

I hope more and more developers just stop working on games for Xbox to at least us PlayStation gamers don’t get half-cooked games.

PS5 is already failing to reach the internal rendering resolution of the last-gen PS4 Pro. As I said, FFXVI on PS5 runs at a lower native resolution in its quality mode (1080-1440p) than TLOU2 did on the PS4 Pro (locked 1440p).

Console gamers that bought expensive 4K sets and care about having pristine image quality are desperately in need of a more powerful device. You can't begin a generation by having native 4K titles such as Demon's Souls, Rift Apart, Forbidden West, Part I or Ragnarok and then downgrade to a third of such pixel count without offering an alternative to the high-end gamer that wants (and would gladly pay for) a premium experience.

Playing God of War, Sekiro and Horizon on the Pro made a huge difference to me. I couldnt stand the 30fps mode when I went back to it.
Better FPS and graphics is worth the upgrade for some. No1 is forced to buy it

Supply and demand baby, supply and demand. Those that want more from what they have now have an option, those coming in late now can also save up and get the premium system.

If not enough buy, they won’t do it again.

But there is PR in all this too if all games are best on a PS console etc.

Ahh, we're back to spec flinging. Worked out well for the series X at the start of the gen, huh @Welfare?

But I like how he plays the neutral. Zero self respect and all for as company that probably doesn't even pay you. Work on your self esteem.

I disagree that its the only reason is to make money. If it were not for pro models last gen would have left behind by PC. And you have gotten PS5 much sooner which would have been basically the PS4 pro.
You would have ended up spending the same on a new console cycle $499 regardless.

The copium for xbots get harder

So that means MS mid gen refrish gets beat by Sony regular console? 🤡

The Series S was competing directly against the PS5 all along and did't managed to sell 1/4 the units despite costing as far as $250 less? Turned out to also be completely outclassed in every possible way by the PS5 DE as well? 🤡🤡🤡

If this is actually going to be MS take and they don't have something to compete with the PS5 Pro we are in for a unprecedented beating for the next of this gen and I doubt the Xbox brand can survive that.
