I'm always torn about the licensed future we're moving towards.

On one hand I am mildly worried about losing access to games, on the other hand it'd probably only impact things I hadn't played in a while anyway, and I don't really like "stuff" cluttering my house.

The disc version is also getting a discount. Use your common sense.
It is? Do you have any source for that?

The standard PS5 Slim model continues to retail at $499.99, while the recently launched PS5 Pro model is priced at $699.99.

Unless Sony are increasing the price of a disc drive.
What disc drive? It's constantly sold out everywhere.
Which further proves my point.

Yes, but let's face it, it will happen anyway.

PC-Gaming moved to all digital 10-15 years ago already, and they unironically don't complain about it (they also crack and pirate, though!).

And the numbers have already shown how many PS and even Switch Players prefer Digital, already.

The danger of these discounts is reducing value for customers and delay purchasing. Xbox had the same issue, almost no consoles being sold and then a huge explosion at the end of the year.

Xbox had the issue that nobody gives a damn about them.

And their Hardware sales have continously droped over the past 1-2 years.

I meant the 360 / xbox one era.

The series console is done, only a simmering of relevancy in the us. Europe has a ratio between ps and xbox earlier only seen in Japan.

Yes, the 360 was like half a generation, where it appeared as if they could keep up!

And even that was mainly attributed to the poorly received release of the PS3, at a high Price!
Once the PS3 came back with the really good games and price drops, that gap closed.

Then Don Mattrick and the Xbox One happened... rest is History.

I heard, not sure if true. But it was a finance dude. That ms bought those Xbox 360 replacements from themselves and thus added to shipped number. Else xbox would manufactur consoles that wouldn't show up in finance any more.

Not sure if true.

Same thing for xbox one, and the cloud initiave.

But Don Matrick was only ceo for 3 years, and back then he delivered on exclusives that are seen defining for xbox because they failed everything else.

- ryse of Rome
- that insomniac game
- did a deal with ea for titanfall the biggest new shooter from the makers of mw2.

What have they done under phil, everything stagnated and they went cloud chasing, the cloud, no kinect, streaming, gamepass, scorpio, the acquisitiond now the handheld.

But no games, like wtf is happening. he also closed all those first party studios as his first step. Cancelled scalebound, and closed many studio's, said no to spiderman and insomniac.

Don matrick mades actual moves, under phil could you name some xbox defining games that released in his tenure? Im not even joking, very difficult. This never happened in a console race, one party stopped to actually compete by themselves.

I think you're right. I'm sure it will all work out for the best! :)

Considering that i own 300 Games on PlayStation, and 500 on Steam, i prefer having it digitally, to be honest...

Imagine handling all those cases and discs, arranging them, preventing damage and decay, lose, theft...

I used to do some console gaming back in the day, and have a whole library shelf filled with old discs I really ought to just clear out at this point.

I have been a fan of the portability the digital nature of games provide.

Aslong as you have the ability to get it all downloaded on a wired/wifi connection, it isn't an issue.
Maybe Storage can be a thing, but that can be extended on most devices.

Only people with true lack of internet access might suffer from this, but i guess that won't be a big deal in the future.

And a good bunch of games rely on Online-Access anyway...

For a number of reasons, I also hope access to the internet improves in the future.

I often take for granted my relatively accessible East Coast US internet connectivity, and cellular service.
I think wireless will be the solution!

It is much less prone to issues than cable, and never failed me on mobile.
