Either way with this acquisition will know what PS future is indefinitely. If Fromsoft games is still releasing on PC day 1 PS console will further see a decline & the PS PC launcher will be DOA. It will also tell that PS will put games on PC & even Nintendo day 1 as releasing games on PC causes diminishing negatives effect towards one platform/storefront.

If Sony makes Fromsoft games exclusive you can see a sponge between PC & general gamers who have transitioned now stay or at the very least buy a PS console + PS+ to play Fromsoft games & online. If Sony makes Fromsoft games exclusive you can see a general uptick in need of PS consoles for essentially any notable souls like or mecha game. Maybe even explore VR for souls like & mecha games.

What’s important to not is that with even Xbox console imploding PS consoles sales & business have seen bleak gains from the demise of Xbox which tells even Xbox gamers aren’t migrating to PS likely because PS games can now be played on PC or Vlaves own console w Steamdeck which is the same price as PS console & holds more value & benefits. That should be very telling that PS isn’t doing much for there consoles nor have build a library of exclusive games to migrate existing & new gamers onto the platform which explains why 50% is still on PS4. Pretty alarming in my opinion. Not all multilayer live service games should go to PC some like PS Home, LBP, GT7 & future more fun/party games should release only on PS consoles to build & cultivate a PS fanbase of both older & young that fun multilayer games could be played on PS consoles. Maybe explore mobile for these type games then PC, games like Multiversus flopped on PC so a PS Allstars fighter/kart racer could only be available on PS consoles & mobile devices

I had the same thought @Neversummer. If their games require the PSN login then it could potentially show overlap between the two platform users and to some degree migration from PS to PC. Fromsoft games would show this data better than any other developer with how popular they are on both PC and PS.

To think Kadokawa who’s market cap is around 3 would sell for 15 is funny asf that’s like 5x insanse premium. If anything like crunchyroll & rumination it will be lower then many think. This acquisition would have many gains for Sony as a whole from anime ip, anime studios which can bolster PS production, the mobile studios & the AA game studios that make beloved JRPG to Fromsoft the potential in cross media & monetizing is high.

Something PS doesn’t really do much is monetize there singleplayer games you can easily pump Elden Ring, Sekiro cosmetics skins in Demon Souls remake & Bloodborne for $10-$20. Kinda miss the PS3 gen where singleplayer games has these type of crossover cosmetics it’s easy money & high profits

From a sheer resource perspective, it would be good, to be under Sony's banner.
The focus on big-budget Development with potential exclusivity is exactly what they want, especially now with the FireStick Console fizzling out.

Imagine Elden Ring 2 being PS exclusive!

No they can't. Kadokawa is a government protected company because they have a huge business in the public sector: school books. Nobody than a Japanese corporation can buy them, which are also need to be a government protected company like its case for Sony. PS should be focusing less on big budget over bloat AAA games.

Not that Fromsoft games are bloated budget wise in doubt Elden Ring costed above 150 million which isn’t bad. Many Fromsoft games recycle assets & are open handed so it takes less work/budget.

But yes Elden Ring 2 should be permanent exclusive & bend PC & future gamers to buy PS consoles & also buy PS+ to play online in singleplayer games. If Sony wants to push PS+ they should be adding online coop components to there singleplayer games that are exclusively on PS that would drive users to subscribe to play online in PS singleplayer games. If PS wants Fromsoft games on PC or mobile it should be through a multiplayer live service diablo like game that combine all soulsborne universes into 1 mmo. Sony/PS can have both while ensuring its competitiveness but under Herman & Totoki I’d guess they will look at short term gains at the cost & diminishing of PS own ecosystem

I have my reservations against this deal, nothing stops Miyazaki from opening up shop with a different studio after an year like mikami did. And From Software without Miyazaki is worthless anyways. This on top of the big chance of Playstation ruining From Soft even with Miyazaki staying

This deal is pro Japan. They literally decided against going for western companies. This is the Sony we need. Investing in Japanese corporations. Hence Sony is Japanese.
