Now, a statement from Kadokawa reads, “There are some articles on the acquisition of Kadokawa Corporation (hereinafter “the Company”) by Sony Group Inc,

“However, this information is not announced by the Company. The Company has received an initial letter of intent to acquire the Company’s shares, but no decision has been made at this time. If there are any facts that should be announced in the future, we will make an announcement in a timely and appropriate manner.”

I mean what this confirms is

  • This isn't a rumor
  • That they're still in relatively early stages of the process

Some level of due diligence has likely already occurred and some level of talks have probably already occurred.

I think the idea that this gets "done" in a couple weeks is a bit optimistic, but things could also move very fast here.

Imagine Elden Ring 2 being PS exclusive!
Elden Ring 2 is unlikely. At least not in the capacity that FromSoftware would develop it.

I think I said the same thing about "DARK SOULS III" in a previous interview, but basically I don't mean to say, "This is completely over." This is because I don't think there is any need to destroy the possibilities and good ideas that may arise in the future right now. However, at this point, there are no plans for additional DLC or "ELDEN RING 2." Even if it's not the complete end to the story, I think this DLC will be a big break.

They are focusing on new IP creation at the moment. Their next release will likely be an original IP, but not by Miyazaki, as they're trying to diversify their portfolio of game directors.
