Just buy Sega already
I wouldn’t be suprised if Sony would buy more than one publisher. Actually SQEX + SEGA would be a good combo. I think that depends on Microsoft and what their next move is. If MS buys really Ubisoft then Sony could start thinking hard about it…

Squeenix and Sega is the ultimate combo, for me personally. I just wonder if the games would become console exclusive to Playstation because some of those companies games do well on switch or pc

It think they would get a similar status like Bungie. The games would still come to PC and Switch, but Xbox would be excluded for sure.

There is no way that Sony or MS are looking to buy ASW. Like… for what?

I honestly don’t get their inclusion. Nor does Sony even need to bother to cultivate the fighting game fan; they already have them all…. And it’s a small pool to begin with.

Er...did you oversee how many energy Sony is putting in their efforts to become the leading platform in Fighting genre?
They bought the biggest platform for Fighting tournaments. Nearly all ASW Fighting games are exclusive to Playstation. And as I recall there where last years rumors to a buyout by Sony. That rumor originated if I remember correctly from a Japanese guy, who is heavily connected in this fighting game business.

PS: No one talked about Microsoft here. :p

I’d put money that anything Sony buys next has very little to do with anything that makes love letters to anime.

Even with that said, Square is the only thing right now that fits. I thought Remedy but they’re really busy whoring themselves out across the entire industry right now. Otherwise I think crytek is the way to go.

They could buy the smaller startup studios they partnered with if work on the current projects seems of quality pedigree but otherwise it seems wiser to just see those projects thru before pulling the trigger.

Seems like Square Enix. The waves of exclusives coming out of them are not typical of 3rd party publisher. Also, their recent shrinking and refocusing on the Japanese segment (where all playstation exclusives come from) seems like a pre merger synergy.

I believe in Deviation more than Haven, It was a bit surprising that Sony made the decision to aquire Haven despite unproven record. The last time they acquired non proven studio was Guerrilla in 2005. Actually, they were total garbage when they acquired them. Anyone remember original Killzone and that Vietnam game 😂? Look at them now. Probably the best game developers (at least from technical side, they are almost unmatched) .

That’s what messed Sony up. This thinking that no one will buy this (xy) company. I am not talking about Microsoft only, because it’s very unlikely that Japanese will sell to a American company.

But don’t forget Tencent, they are Asian too and they will have it much easier to buy Japanese companies than a Microsoft. Sony should definitely secure them someday, so that fear to lose them permanently will disappear forever. Losing SQE would hurt Sony more than getting locked out from Activision Blizzard IPs.

Maan, after missing SuperMassive, I really hope Sony have something to announce at EVO.

I understand that happens, but I still can't get over the seeming disdain for another negociating tactic. Opening the kimono. Why SQE selling those properties to Embracer and not Sony a few months early? Why do SQE need the money for NTF crap if theyre already in Sony's pocket anyway, wink wink, and if they are, why didnt Sony just send "themselves" (SQE) the money for the IP etc.

If Sony is looking for more profits and bigger software numbers and player metrics… they’re not buying Square Enix to make them exclusive. Such a strategy is obsolete.

I know most console warriors can’t deal with this new era… but it’s pretty awesome.
