So is Grand Theft Auto San Andreas VR still happening or will it be eventually canned?

2 days ago today was the 20 Year Anniversary of the PS2 release of grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and today is the 3 year Anniversary of the Oculus Quest 2 Version being announced

Also two days ago today we apparently found out Leon is gay:

It's such a shame for the 20 year Anniversary of such a huge game doesn't have anything for it.
Not even a GTA VI trailer to release around this time just for anniversary sakes.

We did get an update in August of this year that it is placed on hold indefinitely and while his definitely does not look good for the project it doesn't mean it won't come out but time will tell:

I wonder why Sony and Meta haven't teamed up for some collab projects seeing how much VR has been floundering for them lately

Also fun fact, Nioh was technically revealed 20 years ago today!

Under the name Oni
Crazy how it took about 12 and a half years later for this game to finally release

Would be cool if we get a vr version.
20 year anniversary should of been a GTA4 Remaster moment at the least

It was dead before it was released. Biggest waste of R&D this generation
Not at all. Best headset on the market, the games that launched for it are mostly mint as fuck and the controllers are the best ever made.
It's a mint piece of kit.

That's not saying much when the device itself was a commerical failure

It wouldn't have been if It was supported. Early adoption was always going to be slow, then when the price came down and the software options increased, it would have gained In support.

Like I've said a few times though, having no destiny VR or Killzone VR was beyond stupid

The price was too much, lack of Backwards compatibility sealed it's fate.

Lack of BC was the right decision. Not selling upgrades to make use of the controllers was not.

PSVR1 and PSVR2 are completely different beasts. The naming convention was dumb. Should have called it playstation vision or something

Why would you want to play a 3rd person game in VR? Especially a low poly pixelfest like SA?

It will look VERY rough and that breaks all immersion.

Sony took the conscious decision of killing PSVR2 upon release. There's just no other way to describe what happened.

Which was also a major blow to all the people who bought the headset assuming Sony would stand behind it.
Pair this with the PS Vita where they did the exact same thing, and no one should ever trust Sony to support any of their own hardware platforms except for the numbered Playstations.

But releasing an expensive set of hardware just to let it die with no support upon release shows such a blatant lack of respect for their customer base. Even the half-assed PC support they brought sounds a bit insulting, with Sony refusing to enable all the game-changing features like eye-tracking for foveated rendering, HDR and haptic feedback on the controllers.

Robots Rescue and Astro Bot Rescue Mission are both 3rd person games and they work wonderfully in VR.
Hellblade 1's VR mode is also great, which made me believe Sony would be bringing a VR mode to all their 1st-party titles like GoW Ragnarok and Ratchet&Clank.

Sony definitely killed off Vr2. If happened sorta quietly after launch. It’s good they still support it and I do expect them to do a VR3 etc and still work on the tech.

I don’t think it’s the “support.” Like dumping billions isn’t gonna make people want something or force them to try it.

It’s an interface issue since the Virtual Boy. It may just not be the ideal thing. Like… I’m never wearing a helmet to play a video game.

Which is were I’m gonna cop out and say we’re still a bit far off from world changing VR. It’s just cool to see it being worked on. The cockpit style games like Gran Tursimo or space shooter examples are amazing.

True and I also remember Moss which was awesome. But GTA SA in VR will look rough. Very rough. Low poly breaks all immersion I think.
