Maybe Sony has planned after all a big event to celebrate the anniversary of PlayStation.

Hopefully its a state of play or showcase. They did a state of play on december 10th, 2019 that revealed RE3 remake so maybe RE9 might be here. Also they had Ken Kutiragi show up for the 25th anniversary so maybe he shows up here?

They also released the PlayStation Classic on December 3rd, 2018 for the 24th Anniversary.

Herman hasn't done anything for the 30th anniversary yet. Nishino did for hardware and during the state of play Hulst was absent.

The only reasons I doubt this are a) we haven't heard any solid rumors to back this up and b) the game awards are right after which means you wouldn't really show anything exclusively there unless maybe it was 3rd party

But this is a rare moment where we might be agreement, because I don't think the tease means anything, either.

Of course, we're going to vary wildly in our reasons as to why, but let's enjoy the rare convenience provided here

Where does the optimism come from that it is a hint for something? Sony may have "shown" a new Uncharted in a trailer over a year ago, and to this day nobody knows what they really showed. And shouldn't well-known insiders like Grubb or Henderson have said something about it if Sony is planning something? Grubb is always a good source these days, who has correctly advertised such events months in advance.

It may be that I am being too pessimistic, but why would Sony do something so shortly before Keighley's TGA? They can drop 2-3 trailers there cheaply and Keighley can flirt with Kojima again when he shows Death Stranding 2 again. In my opinion, it's just good marketing again. People see it, tweet and speculate about it. Just like with the "Uncharted" scene. Also, Sony very rarely does anything on a Tuesday, and afaik December 3rd is a Tuesday, and only 3 weeks away. An insider had already gotten wind of it by then.

I think I my assumption could be legit. Hermen will just talk in the camera on 3rd December how great PlayStation is and how all have contributed for creating this great platform. Hermen is a hack.
