Sony are not interested in making AAA single player games??

Now that’s crazy talk right there.

And this rumour was always just made up click bait.

Well, they are, but for at least the next three fiscal years their investment budget for those stays the same while actual costs for game development increases due to inflation and other factors.

So per fiscal year will likely see less AAA single-player games getting funded if the total funding amount stays the same/stagnant, unfortunately. Though I wouldn't necessarily mind that if it means more AA-scale game funding, because you'd get a net increase in 'traditional' games with that & still get 1-2 AAA single-player traditional games funded each fiscal year, too.

Can you imagine if Sony just pigeon-holed themselves to only single player games and not catering to the massive multiplayer base.
Yes I can. We would get something like the PS4. What harm has CoD did to Sony? Sony makes money out of every third party GaaS.

Why should they delude themselves that they can have success on the GaaS front all of the sudden and sacrifice what they have going on for it?

COD isn’t doing any harm to Sony. But COD under Microsoft control is a whole different matter making the business decision to find success in gaas games a wise choice.

Also there’s no guarantee for making a successful gaas game. Sony agree that’s why they’re making so many to increase their chances. It’s better to at least try right?

in terms of first party studio output nothing else needs to be sacrificed. It’s PlayStation studios growing larger.

The thing is, it's obvious they are not going to find any success besides the one hay paid billions for (Bungie boring sci-fi FPS).

Single player AAA investment has already being sacrificed they invest less now on traditional games than they did 4 years ago based on official Sony communication and their plans are to slightly increase that investment over time while investment in GaaS skyrockets.

Fairgame$, Concord, Horizon GaaS, Bend GaaS, London GaaS, Twisted Metal by Lucid, all guaranteed flops.

Sony is not interested in the type of games CDPR makes (AAA single player games), they are more likely to buy something like Krafton that makes GaaS trash.
I mean they did buy House Marque and Bluepoint. Both made single player games and they were awesome.
Sony needs to buy some stufios. CDPR wouldnt be my first choice, but if they are buying a couple then it would be a good WRPG buy

We haven’t seen a single second of realtime gameplay for any of those games so far and you’re already calling them obvious guaranteed flops?

Nothing more than irrational thoughts at this stage.

Both don't represent any big expansion as far as we are concern, both already worked on Sony games during the PS4 gen. Both are good investment, don't get me wrong, I just wanted a lot more of it to make up for the long dev cycles. When Sony was investing in Haven, Firewalk, etc, I assumed we were going to get more games like Naughty Dog MP (a game said to be leveraging their high production value and story telling skills to create a new experience), turns out they think Factions was unsuitable to be published and the trailers for these new GaaS point to them taking inspiration from the most basic and played out GaaS.

Is a new Uncharted not viable right now? Is Sony funding another Detroit/Until Dawn/Bloodborne/Everybody's Golf game profitable to them? If so why not do it? Why slow down when following up on a console that sold 120m+ units with one that has everything to sell even more? Why allow a company like Xbox that is dead last and that have nothing going on for them to catch up to you by drastically outspending you? Why not work on a PS3 native solution to make those games accessible to the millions of people paying PS+ Premium? It all seems lazy as fuck.

You're right. 1st party should make exclusive single player games. 3rd parties should make multiplayer games and GaaS if they want to.

No first party platform has the resources to make a successful exclusive multiplayer that relies on high player numbers to succeed. Even if one platform has 100 million users, its still not as big as all platforms and PC combined

If a first party studio happened to see a great opportunity that fits into what they already do, like Gran Turismo investing in multiplayer and e-Sports or even ND with Factions, sure, go after it. But having GaaS as the main strategy for PlayStation is being stupid (and it's not an exaggeration to say that is the case, they themselves say it and show the numbers to back it up).

There is an obvious reason to why not every publisher have their own Fortnite/Fifa/CoD/GTA/Minecraft/Roblox it's not easy to go against those estabilished games and only complete fools like Hermen and Jimbo would think that they find similar success hat by betting it all in Haven, Firewalk, Deviation, etc.

Sony is going to find success similar to Hyenas, xDefiant, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Destruction All Starts, Halo Infinity or Bleeding Edge instead.

Sony could use the popularity of some of their franchises like TLoU and Horizon and use the multiplayer as a way to keep the franchise in the minds of players.

For example, Horizon 2 should have a dlc which turns it into a monster hunter clone. Sell the mainline game, sell the dlc, sell more dlc and content until Horizon 3. This is what it used to be like.

Making a stand alone Horizon multiplayer could work, but then you have to keep it going while also create more content and mainline games. It takes resources away.

Leave the 3rd party devs to make the stand alone multiplayer games, as they are always the ones that are popular.

You know what? It's a shame Sony didn't buy Quantic Dreams before Detroit so they could have straightened out the in-house turmoil because their games will be missed on PS.

We'll get a Monster Hunter Clone. The original Horizon had Concept art for Co-op initially. It was a missed opportunity to not do the Multiplayer spin off during the PS4 era, when they had an actual active base, willing to spend.

This isn't the final game? We see no game play? This is a debugged build. I'm sure it will play more like Monster Hunter and the graphics will look better.
That excuse of being early build never works well in the end. Good games look like good games even when leaked.
