I've enjoyed MANY games whether it be on the OG Xbox or the 360 or even now. MS did a fantastic job in the 360 era with online play etc. Not sure if you remember back then but Xbox Live got Sony to move their ass and make PSN. It was a great time to be a gamer. I'm not going to get into a back and forth with you considering your extreme anger and hate towards MS. The fact you think I'm "corrupt" and on the payroll for MS makes you LITERALLY delusional. I'm a mother, and a wife. I'm not on some tiny, miniscule forum ( I know were growing
) because MS is paying me. I'm here because I love gaming and so do my kids.It's people like yourself that bring so much toxicity and anger to the gaming community and that overall hurts this community that I love and have grown up in. I don't know how old you are but I hope if you're still young you can learn that gaming is an escape for a lot of people and considering what's going on in the world whether it be (Ukraine or the middle east, the homeless, people losing jobs, etc etc etc) We want to have fun, We want to enjoy our fellow gamers and bring MORE people into communities such as this place right here. Xbox live didn't get Sony to come up with psn Sony literally had an ethernet adaptor come out for the PS2 before the Xbox even released & were experimenting with online multiplayer in certain games before the PS3I've enjoyed MANY games whether it be on the OG Xbox or the 360 or even now. Dreamcast and PS2 had online gaming.... Xbox for introducing a paywall for console gamers to access the internet is a "fantastic job"? Because that's the only thing they've contributed when it comes to online gaming. Even Nintendo is charging for their crappy online now. I had fun on Xbox too in the past....but the best thing about og xbox and the 360 were their 3rd party exclusives, which they now demonize Sony for doing....Xbox has contributed zilch to gaming.....I agree with your 2nd half tho, none of us should be taking this stuff seriously

I'm not saying MS created online, no what I'm saying is MS brought it mainstream and into peoples home in a big way. 360 was very successful in part to Xbox Live. Sony followed very quickly with PSN. Again being here on Icon, nobody is going to say much of anything positive about MS so no need to continue this back and forth. Be waste of all of our gaming time. GT7 with PSVR2 is too incredible to be defending any company or product.

Not a nearly toxic as Xbox fandom. And that was soooo obvious visible in last 2 years when MS/ABK merge was in the process. It was damn PS fans purge on ERA.

Anyone that follows your posting history knows that your trademark is calling Sony fans fanboys and warriors but you NEVER keep that same energy for Xbox fans. You actually team up with them to call out toxic Sony fans. This is your whole posting history, the rest is game pass, cheering for MS acquisitions and pro-Activision stuff.
Buying a PSVR and making two posts about it is not gonna change that fact
I don't think Sony wants the Portal to run games on its own, it's a peripheral to the PS5 and they don't want it to be anything else (otherwise it would cost a lot more).
What I meant is the Portal can run several apps that complement a game and the PS5's capabilities.
Here's some ideas for apps:
- An always-on map with the player's location (I need this so much on open world games or roguelikes...)
- An inventory/equipment management system for a RPG that is running on the PS5, and all the PS5 needs to do is share a database
- Minigames that work better on the touchsreen and complement the main game, like mixing alchemy ingredients for a potion or those visual logic games they use for "hacking" or wiping the dust off some objects, etc. They explored on that a lot on the Vita, for example.
- A touchscreen keyboard for text input (games that make use of LLMs/ChatGPT might become really big in the next few years)
- Management of audio chatrooms with friends
- Media playback of recent gameplay
- UI for video editing of gameplay footage before sharing with friends / social media. Snipping on a touchscreen is much faster than on a gamepad
There's 4GB of RAM in there so all these apps can be running at the same time in the device with no problem. And all this can be done while the game runs on the TV, without a HUD to increase immersiveness.

Sony could sell it at a higher price and make profit per unit sold, but that is not Sony's primary goal. Sony's goal is to increase gamers' playtime, which would lead to more game sales.
That's how Sony wants to make money, not by selling per hardware unit.
This is literally the exact same model that Sony has used with the PS4 and PS5.

Sony said they did not expect to make a profit on a useless product. The devices function can be performed on any device I can cloud stream from my computer to my phone. The Device is already overpriced for what it is. I’m certain the money spent creating the portal could’ve been spent on a handheld device instead and could make more revenue via game sales that way rather than this cloud streaming gimmick. It feels experimental in nature if I’m being honest here.

Nothing experimental in nature as Sony innovated and pushed remote play for years since PS3 days, this was organically the next step and evolution. Could not disagree more.
That's a really bad misrepresentation of what was said. Nowhere is it said that they didn't expect or want profitability, it states clearly that profit was SECONDARY to the goal of increasing engagement.
My guess is that with cellphones and tablets taking more and more screentime away from traditional activities like TV and console gaming that they wanted a device that would help maintain console gaming in their userbase's mindshare. For example google says that the average American uses their phone in excess of 4 hours a day. Sony's calculus is to give ps5 users an alternative outlet for that screentime.
They could do it. But I assume Sony would prefer to make their own PSN store for Android to have there all their Sony apps and games for Android in order to don't pay the 30% cut.
