Jimbo and Hulst, who else? They are who both all those PC developers and made needless PC ports.

Yeah, they are fucking stupid.... one side we have Microsoft buying up entire publishers and then we have Jim and Hermen giving away the few unique games we had on PlayStation.

Not to mention they never ended up buying anything to really counter the effects of MSFT's acquisitions or at least give Microsoft a bloody nose.

Now Microsoft has a huge head-start and Sony spent billions on WHAT? I don't even know.

Bungie was a good but they wont make any exclusives...

Sony should not spend money the way MS does. It can still afford possibly all the publishers in the world I suppose, but with those big acquisitions come big risks that I do not think it is worth it, especially when Sony does not have an immensely big wallet like MS does. That is not to say that smaller investments in new Studios foundations is not risky, but I just think smaller investments have higher chance of being successful. If Sony loses Activision then it can try to build a new Activision by itself. At some point I think people need to understand people make games, not the studios, without the original creators or their succecsorers, game studios tend to just be a shadow of their former selves. Nintendo can maintain such quality with their first party games, especially their flagship franchises because there always exist other Miyamotos after his retirement or departure from game making. These big acquisitions may harm or may facilitate Xbox, we’ll see in the future.

I really have a feeling based on some of the hired Sony made the past 2 or so years that they were gearing up for a very large acquisition, Greg McCurdey was after mid 2022, so it's not to do with Bungie.

I am speculating that the ABK deal held everything up, hopefully it can now happen.... but as outsiders, who knows!
A deal that they were looking at could have fallen apart since.

I was also thinking more about Ubisoft....

If tencent own a huge chunk, Sony would be better off matching Tencent and just taking a large stake to keep them as partners, their stock is likely only to recover from now anyway.

They could also get a deal for xDefiant.

I think Tencent or the likes of Capcom and Sega should be priority.

Bungie might make good gameplay, but busines-wise Destiny/D2 has been a con.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't there some Sony stalwarts within TenCent's western arm? Could Sony and TC not just have an investing agreement? (this is to stop pub/dev selling up. We protect PS, TC just gets profit I guess.

Sony needs to figure out where they want to be in the games industry now. Do they keep the course, keep making little moves and get left behind in a decade, or accept that they do need to participate in the consolidation war that is now upon them. Honestly I don’t think Sony management want to partake in a consolidation war and would be fine just doing what they’ve been doing.

We can blame jim and Herman all we want but if the parent company wants to blow
All the acquisition money on semi conductors and Sony pictures, what can they do? I think Sony is going to bank on the ps5 selling so well that MS can’t ignore the installed base. It’s an extremely short sighted view but I think that’s what they’re going to do. They’ve shown no interest or have even talked about making large moves publicly yet.

sorry, but that's not gonna happened. install size doesn't matter. they just blew up a billion in games sales just to keep Starfield and IJ exclusives. they don't give a fuck about playstation. they want to kill them. they can sustain loss for years.

Right I know that but I’m talking from Sony management’s perspective.

Hm what’s this for?

My guess would be PS x SE, but I still struggle to reconcile not taking SE West first.

From a price perspective, a needed developer manpower perspective, a PS associated IP/IP from genres they need perspective, a digital/BC/PS+ catalogue perspective, a more people in Montreal perhaps to cross pollinate with Haven locally, and "One Sony" cross-media/licensing IP opportunities. Sigh...

Edit: It'd make no sense for Sony to make PlayStation it's own sister company, would it?

Well PlayStation is already a 100% subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation.

Yes we knew it all. Sony will never let any of their big deals getting leaked. He was just attention seeking. Well I am disappointed I did hope for PlayStation Exp to return…

My brother brought up this crazy idea of merging Sony and Nintendo, leaving Nintendo only on the mobile side and Sony on the home console, I laughed. His reasoning is that japanese companies should stick together to push back american acquisitions
