Sony's Guerrilla Sounds Completely Done with the Killzone Series

"We were done with it as a team"

Killzone: Shadow Fall PS4
If there ever is to be another Killzone title out of Sony in the future, you probably should not expect it to come out of the series' original developer Guerrilla Games. Having shifted focus to its more vibrant Horizon series following PS4 launch game Killzone: Shadow Fall, the studio's art director Roy Postma has commented that the studio was "done with it as a team". It wanted to create the opposite of Killzone's colour palette when crafting Aloy's first instalment, Postma told The Washington Post.

The comments come from an interview about LEGO Horizon Adventures, where it's revealed LEGO approached Sony about the idea of a LEGO game following the release of its Tallneck LEGO set. Talking about switching from the dark and gritty world of Killzone to the colourful post-apocalyptic setting of Horizon, Postma said: "We were done with it [Killzone] as a team. As a studio, we needed to refresh the palette. It was, by choice, the opposite of Killzone. I think the themes that this story and the characters represent are relatable for all ages and people, like having a found family of friends and finding your place in the world."

Guerrilla Games created Killzone titles from 2004 until 2013, spanning five entries across four consoles. With Sony making a push into the live-service market, the Killzone franchise is one that fans have pegged for a comeback, along with the likes of SOCOM and Twisted Metal. This hasn't materialised, however, as Sony released — and quickly pulled — Concord, while finding major success in Helldivers 2 earlier this year. Fairgame$ from Haven Studio and Bungie's own Marathon are also on the way.

I personally would have liked to have seen more Killzone, as I enjoyed them all. I like that series more than Horizon. But I am biased, as I prefer shooters. It would be nice if another team could possibly dig into it then. Obviously not Bungie, but not sure who.

I guess sometimes it is just time to let franchises go out quietly, without the need for sequels. Similar to how movies can go on to long with too many sequels. Needless to say, I have lost hope for a new Killzone.

I would embrace another Horizon if they do one (beyond Legos).

They never broke the niche bubble with Kilzone.
I believe the best selling one reached 3 million?

In today market an AAA game expensive like Killzone should not live selling 3 million…

I loved it.

360 was dominating and was the market leader, unfortunately. Many PS3 mp games couldn't reach full sales potential, despite being good.

Officially last update it is 3 million for Killzone 2.

Absolutely nonsense if you ask me. Same goes for the Resistance games.

They sold far more.

They didn’t…

There is a reason why Sony focuses in Uncharted and not Killzone or Resistance.

Sales.

I want a new SP focused Killzone with the vibes of Killzone 2, plus a remastered collection of the previous games.

360 didn't dominate anything, it only was released way earlier than PS3, so during its earlier years there wasn't PS3 in the market and PS3 got released when 360 was close to its peaks sales year. Launch aligned PS3 did a better job even in the earliers years, thanks to specially to the (mostly EU) PAL territories. At the end of their lifetime, PS3 sales were higher than the 360 ones.

Killzone never had the cachet of Halo and was never as popular. Still, they were great, mature sci-fi games and I hope one day to at least see them available on PS5 backward compat.

2 and 3 were the best. Shadowfall I could take or leave, but the visuals were stunning.

I was just thinking about playing through these, or at least watching a retrospective of the series.

I miss the days when Killzone, Resistance, and Socom were out on the same console.

Personally I hope Guerrilla makes 1 more Horizon and is done with that series too. I expect an MP Horizon game too.
Time for new ips if they dont have time..

A remake of KZ1-2-3 by another team would be good though. Much more needed then some Remakes. KZ1 remake being FPS too.
Loved Killzone 2, Killzone 3 was good MP too.

But Shadow Fall was absolutely awful. So I cant blame anyone for not wanting to play, make or carry on the series. It wasnt like KZ1 made it big either. KZ2 is definetly the best title overall

Expecting Sony to bring back KZ or Resistance over new ip or other ips doesnt make sense. They were great on PS3 but never were the Halo killers they needed them to be back then. Im all for it but people thinking its the best choice, its gonna have a small loyal fans.

How many of you bought and played Shadow Fall…did it work out for Playstation? So why should they trust the series or the fans to buy a new one?

Saying that, people who say it never made it big, kinda true, but that doesnt mean the series cant make a comeback or be popular now.

Sony’s 1st party titles since mid PS4 just have more eyes and are bigger sales. Games Days Gone, GOT and Horizon would of probably sold the same as Infamous, Killzone, Resistance back on the PS3 or first 2 years of PS4. It was the perfect storm that made PS4 1st party games sell so well later on the gen, not just 1 title being good. It was a collective of hype and deserved.

I think older titles can come back and do well. Just like finally after decades games like Yakuza and Persona are no longer ”niche”. SH2 selling, ect etc.
So I dont think Sony is stupid for not bring the series back, but I think they should. Even if its for inexpensive remake/remaster. Its never gonna be the huge FPS sony needs, it doesnt have the story/characters for it

Uncharted is gone? I have the impression we will have new uncharted games in the future.

Naughty Dog the main developer are not making another Uncharted.

It’s as gone as Sly Cooper, Medievil, LBP and others.

At best you will get remakes and spin offs by other smaller developers

The franchise been dead. The only thing they can do is simply remaster Killzone 2 & 3 Multiplayers and throw them up on PS+.

This Franchise was never big enough to keep going.
