Because they read only the title and not what people have already posted multiple times. Then they get stuck on defensive mode trying to justify why a proper portable is impossible for Sony but possible to everyone else.
No-one has a proper portable right now, not a single one of those things fits in a pocket, not a single one can make it from my house to Ocean City without draining its batteries.

Cloud sucks and cloud sucks even more for a portable device. They'll be digging their own grave.

How is creating a remote play/cloud device, equal to Sony digging their own grave? Literally how much do you think it's going to detract from them that will lead to the company/division sinking?

They will concede the portable market to Nintendo but Nintendo will make a play for the more traditional console market again. Nintendo is not that far away from getting proper third party support the Switch hardware was just to weak.

A proper portable would net Sony at the very least an extra 20m console sales. A remote play only device will just drag the brand name down and associate it to low quality experiences.

Like I said a handheld that can handle the shared library natively. I dunno how much more to simplify it for you.

You make it sound so trivial, a handheld suitable enough to handle the entire library natively is essentially a handheld PS5, It's just not realistic and such a device isn't possible anytime soon.

I've seen plenty of negative comments here and on the Internet, but IF Sony can find a good solution for using Project Q anywhere outdoors (making it 5G eSIM ready for instance) then it covers everything you're asking for (full access to your library) at a much cheaper price, longer battery life and a slim and lightweight design.

A handheld PS4 sounds great but with future software releases drying up whats the point. I actually think Project Q is the answer and a forward thinking device embracing the future of cloud tech, allowing streaming of your entire PS library (at near native experience and support for future PS hardware) in a much much cheaper device.

The extra potential IF the Q handheld comes with eSIM support and also stocked at major phone carriers offering a combined data and PS+ premium plan is HUGE.

When is again? You keep making too many speculations and predictions. Nintendo will not make a home console in any given time, the Switch is the proof they do not even need to make a home console to continue growing. I would love Nin to come back to the home console market but that ain‘t happening.

You need to step back and think about what you are saying. There is a reason why Nintendo made the Switch a hybrid. It's freaking hard to develop for and support two platforms. Nintendo knows this. Sony knows this. And Switch is way to successful for Nintendo to go backwards. It's highly unlikely that they make a traditional non portable console again. Sony knows that a dedicated portable will not only stress their studios but will get less 3rd party support as well. It's simply not worth it. You might not like it but it's reality.

Agree. Sony will probably never try a Hybrid like Switch does. A Remote Only Handheld is proactive the most thing close to a handheld we will get. If Vita would have sold 90 million consoles like PSP did, then maybe it would be different today. But Vita was the coffin nail for Sony pursuing traditional portable gaming consoles.

You guys keep repeating the same thing over and over as if Sony had to make games specifically for the new hardware. Sony last gen hardware is likely going to be about as powerful as a Nintendo console that could leverage that to have a presence in the portable space or they could do nothing like you guys suggest and concede that market entirely to Nintendo.

I'm tired of people purposefully pretending I'm suggesting Sony should make portable only games. The library, service and even future support already exist for a PS4P.

The Switch is not strictly portable and Nintendo is not that far away from getting proper third party support in the near future.

The idea that Sony couldn't afford producing this hardware is also absurd when Valve and many other companies already do something similar and have a lot less to gain from it.

If PlayStation gets chocked out of the market, then so be it, they can just become third party for Nintendo and PC/Valve.

It's not about making portable only games. Anytime you have to create games for multiple spec'd systems (even in the case you are talking about), it takes resources. Those resources affect game quality. Do you think developers like developing for Series X and S? Of course not. The best case scenario, for best quality is one system, one set of specs.... period. Complain all you like but there is a reason you're not getting what you want. Sony is already pushing it with VR and even there the support isn't superb. You seriously think they will try a dedicated handheld again. No happening my guy.

Also you should stop acting like if Sony doesn't create a dedicated handheld, they will be pushed out of the market and become third party......that's absurd.

Considering Steamdeck plays PS5 games its not too far off.
Steam Deck literally played 99% of the Steam library overnight without developers getting involved for thousands of games

This is because it plays PC games at 800p (and it still is far off if we're being honest). Sony doesn't have this flexibility with PS5 games. PC games are designed to scale down to low specs and low resolution. PS5 games are designed to run on PS5.

Or Sony can’t afford it. Or Vita failed so no point. Imagine if Nintendo didn‘t bother because N64, Gamecube, Wii U sucked at sales.

Completely ignoring the fact that Steamdeck plays the 99% of Steam library without developers getting involved or any work needed. Ignoring that it plays Returnal and TLOU1 remake.

They think they have to still split studios to work on portable games for a PSP3….

Yeah but we have PS5 games running on Steamdeck.
Developers would just do what They do with PS4/PS4 Pro or PS5/Pro/PS4OG. It would be PS5/ PSP3 options.

What you're describing is not technically feasible. Pointing to the Steam Deck is a bad example for the simple reason that Steam Deck plays PC games. Playstation games don't scale down in the way you're imagining.

Because they do. You say PS4 is enough but it isn't and everyone but you knows it isn't. Imagine launching a console and then never making any bespoke games for it, thats a recipe for instant failure. The cross-gen period dies this Christmas, after that its Madden, FIFA and niche Japanese titles only.

Steam Deck is a niche product and priced accordingly. If a PSP2 sells Steam Deck numbers at a Switch-competitive price then it will have been a horrible flop and black eye to Sony's gaming division. And while the gap might be "smaller" between these PS4-equivalent consoles and Series S, its all really down to what engine the games get built on. Plus, Series S is a false benchmark for first party titles unless you want Sony to intentionally hobble itself. Whatever happened to PS5 with R&C heralding an era of instant load times and freedom to design wide-visibility levels? I actually wanted that future.

I'm with you on most of this, but it is honestly insane that Valve sells a $399 Steam Deck. They're going super aggressive on it when 2 years ago a similar (actually much shittier) device would cost $1200 minimum. The win imo is not Deck selling 100M, it's Dell, HP, Samsung, etc committing to making handheld PCs basically forever. A flawless victory would be those handhelds shipping with SteamOS preinstalled. That is the best handheld future on offer. Amazingly, both MS and Sony are supporting it.

Im sure they can manage something. It wouldnt be an issue with most 3rd party games because they are use to making games that work on all sorts of PC’s.

People 6-7 years ago thought Playstation couldnt handle having a PS4 and PS4 Pro and the extra work would kill studios etc..
The panic and negativity was real. One of the best decisions for consoles, now we get options to play 60/30fps

I'm with you on most of this, but it is honestly insane that Valve sells a $399 Steam Deck. They're going super aggressive on it when 2 years ago a similar (actually much shittier) device would cost $1200 minimum. The win imo is not Deck selling 100M, it's Dell, HP, Samsung, etc committing to making handheld PCs basically forever. A flawless victory would be those handhelds shipping with SteamOS preinstalled. That is the best handheld future on offer. Amazingly, both MS and Sony are supporting it.
Its that cheap? Do they have two skus? Anyways, not to deviate this into a Deck discussion but I think its weird they aren't just giving out Steam OS and Steam store access to the Ally and other "super-premium" competitors. Increased store access and adoption of your Windows alternative should be Valve's goal. The Deck itself was supposed to just be a means to an end, wasn't it?

PS4 Pro had native ports to take advantage of its upgraded hardware. You're saying a Playstation handheld doesn't need developer support to downgrade the hardware.
