Speaking in a new interview (via HazzadorGamin), Square Enix legend Naoki Yoshida (often known affectionately by fans as Yoshi-P), confirmed that Final Fantasy 16 is slated for Xbox, although stopped short of offering a timeframe.

Final Fantasy 16 took the franchise into more of an action hack n' slash direction, riffing on games like Devil May Cry. While some fans lamented the lack of tactical combat prevalent in previous games, the game's spectacular combat visuals won over many new and returning fans regardless. However, the game was up until recently, fully exclusive to PlayStation 5. Final Fantasy 16 has since launched on Steam for PC, however, and managed to hit 27,000~ concurrent players at peak. Although you'd have to wonder how much more it might've done if it had launched simultaneously with its PlayStation version, taking advantage of the marketing cycle from its initial launch.

"Of course we did announce the PC version of the game, so looking towards the Xbox version, we do want to release it on Xbox," Yoshida said. "But when it comes to the specifics such as when the game would be available and such, we are not in a position to be able to share anything. But of course, I want to say that it’s not as if there’s zero hope, and we very much do want to achieve that. So players should not give up in terms of their hopes."

So won't be out until at least mid-2025 from the sounds of that. Wouldn't be surprised if Square are waiting for a GamePass offer because they know the game will hardly sell on Xbox.

I just think it will be compromised by series S. It pushed Playstation hard, has high PC specs.

Also barely anyone on PC touched this, unless it goes into Gamepass how many on xbox will even buy it

Crazy how with the PS5 gen man expected PS to essentially do everything Nintendo is doing w Switch 2 after the success w Switch 1 & that’s double downing on its own platform, hardware, storefront.

PS is rapidly decaying. Between loosing key 3rd party publisher partners & key PS franchise exclusive now going to Xbox & soon Nintendo Switch 2. To PS releasing more PC games then PS exclusive games not to mention the PC ports that PS is doing more of even thoe PC sales are shrinking fast per every release further diminishing the PS console & harming the PS storefront & PS business.

If it wasn’t for the Series s & Xbox being dog shit FF16 & FF7 would’ve been on Xbox if not sooner day n date w how dumb Square Enix leadership is even the PC port of FF16 was a flop. Square Enix lucky to break 300K sales on PC if there lucky FF16 PC port came & went.

It should had sold a bit more on PC at the cost of bit less on PS5.
Overall PC + PS5 with simultaneous release should be lower than PC + PS5 with split releases due double dippers (some gamers instead to choose PC or PS5 when simultaneous ends buying in both platform when split).

Split releases sells more than simultaneous releases.
Rockstart with GTA is telling the industry for decades how to get the most sales of their games.

Boy, it's gonna be fun to see them try to get that running on a Series S.
Honestly a Xbox port will likely give Square Enix & FF16 more bad pr w how bad FF16 will run on series s. I mean it has trouble running on PS5 & on PC it has pretty high specs w ok performance.

If Square Enix isn’t getting a bag from Gamepass Square should be focusing on Nintendo Switch 2 or adding cosmetics in FF16 to recover or gain more profits from existing players

Who cares at this point.

The game is going to sell nothing on Xbox. More so since by the time the game comes out it will be over 2 years later.

Please do it Square so it will sell nothing and you'll eventually come running back to Sony or maybe Nintendo because your games sells nowhere else lol.

Even if this goes on Game Pass it still won't be played after the first week

I think Square is trying to bait Phil into handing over that port and gamepass money. There is no way SE is paying to port the game to the Series S with how badly the company is doing.

Yes, I think it won't sell a lot in Xbox. I assume SE is baiting MS to make MS pay a good chunk of money to fund the port and maybe also for putting it on GP.

Maybe they want Phil to finance a portable version, like the mobile one of FF15, able to run on the potato S and on Switch.

BTW the game will sell additional 500k units on Xbox if lucky (remember Xbots doesn't buy games anymore).

If Square Enix can sell these 500k units at average of $40 then it is $20m additional revenue.
The port should cost just a few $ millions... the game is already running with MS APIs on PC... it is more about optimizations and change the controller button icons.

Everyone is saying the same thing about the Series S, but if they can find a way to fit everything inside the "fast" pool 8GB of RAM then the game should do fine on a 1080p presentation at 30FPS.

The problem is usually whether the devs are willing to go through that effort, considering the sales they'll get from a Xbox console.
