Meh. My PS1 Japanese Holy Trinity Capcom-Konami-Namco are all in the game. Was never a huge fan of Square

Yeah, big suprise. They let characters into Smash but were incredibly stingy with music, trophy assets, etc. They just don't understand the benefit.

So you think all japanese third parties should bend over/ pledge allegiance to Sony just because? That the Sony fanboy mindset since the PS2 days and it hasn't changed one bit.

If it's not specified on a contract square doesn't have to lend any characters.

I thought the game was a celebration of Sony's own IP. Other wise you would have an Astrobot for Lara Croft, Jill Valentine, Snake, Paul from Tekken, Jon Kabira of Winning eleven, Tommy Vercetti, CJ, CD/DVD-R...
But there is an Astrobot for Lara Croft, Jill Valentine, Snake and dozens of other games??? Square is the only one missing.

You don't even know what you're talking about. Go turn on Steam and play Counterstrike that's all you know.

Didn’t square enix cry how they want FF & there franchise to reach a new audience/reach a younger generation yet failed to participate in Astro bot a universal family friendly game that celebrates PS 30 anniversary.

Square enix is so brain dead they release vision of mana on xbox yet skipped Nintendo & allowed Xbox to have marketing in which Xbox marketing is ass causing the studio to close.

I wonder if Square is salty that Sony won't release them from their exclusivity contracts. Sony knows best. There are no extra sales to be had on the PC and Xbox graveyards
This is the sole reason Sony/PS needs to acquire Square Enix. Imagine having Square Enix not participate or do business benefiting both companies because Square Enix leadership are so stingy that they ask for a fuck load of money for licensing.

Sony needs to acquire Square Enix for the sole purpose of locking the iconic characters to PS oh & Sony needs to acquire the dragon quest franchise.

Imagine PS doing a PS allstars 2 & Square Enix characters are missing because square doesn’t want them in a fighting game because there already in Smash Bros or Square Enix is charging up the wazoo. Sony can’t deal w a rogue Square Enix especially if PS wants to expand into live service/multiplayer.

I’d imagine when Nintendo releases the next smash bros they will have even more Square Enix characters. Imagine Nier, Xeno gears, parasite eve or even more FF characters in Smash Bros a potential PS allstars would have no chance or it will be extremely hard to compete & since smash bros isnt in EVO that’s a major threat, PS needs there own platform fighter that is the staple fighting game at EVO for decades.

If the awful sales performance of FF16 on PC don't wake him up then they need to fire him. He made so much damage to the brand when he started posing with Phil and badmouthing the exclusivity. There would be no Square without Sony. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.
The only problem w the FF is that there none existence in multiplayer/live service that caters to the modern gamers. FF14 is big but its cater to Asia/PC gamers in a niche genre Square Enix needs to make a genshin impact open world gacha w a anime style or a honkai starrail turn base gacha game that releases on PS, PC & Mobile. I don’t know anyone young that plays FF14 or even the FF mobile game that are on mobile which again is more niche because there either turn base or genres that are more niche.

Square has a problem w creating multiplayer games. There’s no mainstream dragon quest live service there’s no mainstream FF live service & there’s no mainstream Nier live service (Square Enix just shut down a Nier mobile game last year)

I assume after seeing the success of the game they'll agree. Or maybe they already were working on doing it for a dedicated DLC or sequel. There's also more key ones missing like EA or Take 2.

It was actually Sony's fault for not buying Squaresoft when they were cheap. Squaresoft was because of Spirits Within on the brink of bankruptcy. But no Sony rather watched them fuse with Enix. -.-
Sony biggest mistake is not being gun ho in acquisition w studios/publisher they have long history, ip or a cadence of quality release.

Atlus, Fromsoft, Square Enix, Capcom, Remedy, Riot, Level 5 etc

Instead they bought a western studio firewalk creating a bomb w concord, haven that looks to be making a bomb w fairgames, bungie (which I love bungie & there games & I still think overall if manage correctly bungie is well worth 4 billion id argue the story/lore in Destiny that can be translated to cross media is worth 10+ billion) notice how all the studio they bought been western hell is nixxes western? & firesprite? It’s like Sony/PS is allergic to the asia market/Asia base studios/publisher not sure why Sony/PS is so afraid of fully investing In Japan the yen is weak so you can make cheap games at a high quality a ton of games this gen that been high quality or goty been Asia base studios making amazing games.

Fairly dumb decision if it was to not promote its games considering how well received Astro's Playroom is. Hopefully they will work for a DLC world that includes Square IP. I understand the business aspect of it but it's hardly treated as an exclusive. If Xbox or Nintendo had a celebration of its history using connected third party IP, I'd expect Square to be there. It doesn't damage relationships to use IP for cameos.

Square Enix characters are present in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate ie Sora, Cloud Strife, Sephiroth, Hero. This means that Square Enix prefers Nintendo more than Sony.
If I had to guess, it was because Smash Bros has had several highly successful games, while Astrobot was a new thing, barring Astro's Playroom, which isn't really comparable to a series that's been around a lot longer. It might've seemed like a safer thing to collab with.

Apparently It wasn’t easy for Nintendo to put cloud into Smash. They had to really fight for that.

I don't think that's it. Cloud had a cameo in Astro's Playroom.

Edit: It was actually just his buster sword but still.

they’re third party… they shouldn’t be there

It would just cost Sony money for zero gain or benefit. Square will be begging for the exposure soon tho… since they keep underperforming.
